The check engine light should not come on at all. If it does than you need to put it on a code checker, to find out the reason for the check engine light coming on. The light is known as the malfunction indicator light (MIL). When it comes on it indicates a malfunction in the system.
there are 2 fans. one in front and one behind radiator.the front one is for a/c equipped cars only and only runs when a/c or defroster is on. the engine cooling fan comes on only when temp reaches around 210 degrees faren.you didnt say anything about overheating so i assume you may not understand how they work
More then likely it's going to be a check engine light, have her have engine diag. done, due to the computer pick up a bad reading from one of her engine sensor's, she can also take it to some one like Autozone and they can do a code reading for free, but tell her not to buy any thing till she has it check at a repair shop.
