03 navigator Running board on driver side acts confused

The running board on the driver side doesnt close when i close the door, but the passenger one does. when it does sometimes close it closes extremely slowly and then bounces back out. I tried to just change them to an out position in the message center on my lincoln, but that resets it self automatically for some reason and i cannot keep them out because of that reason. while i drive the car, the driver side automatically starts going in and out, with the door closed at high speeds.

There is a relay switch in each door. It is the relay in one of the the driver side doors. The switch is going bad.

Hey Jeff, any U- codes stored in any modules ?
U1900 Missing CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 . U2023 Invalid CAN message(s) Door(s) ajar, PRNDL, 4x4, instrument cluster (IC), running boards, vehicle speed REFER to Section 418-00 .
L4 CHECK THE VDM FOR DOOR AJAR INPUT
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor VDM door position status PID.
  • Close all doors, liftgate, liftgate glass and power running boards.
  • While observing the diagnostic tool, open and close one door.
  • Does the door status PID change between CLOSED and AJAR states?
When you open an close the driver door you have no PID change ,right ?

The door ajar input is an input to the Vehicle Security Module , then transmitted over the bus ! You'll have to find a diagram for the med. speed CAN data bus .

Opening the drivers door doesnt automatically open the passangers door

Some vehicle locking systems allow a single button press to unlock the driver's side door and require a second button press to unlock the passenger side door. Likewise, use of the key to unlock the driver's side door does not automatically unlock the passenger side.

Installing power running boards , cant get the passanger side to go down. What wires do I connect to. Driver side is working.

The driver's side is usually attached to the passenger side, so thee is only 1 inline fuse from the truck's wiring to trigger the running boards. Sounds bad, but routing the wire up the driver's side kick panel and under the dash, down the passenger side and out the hole in the passenger side door sill is the route most use.

If you have the driver's side working, you found circuit # 53, the black with light blue stripe. Circuit 875 also shares the same color code, and you do not want to use this wire.

I installed running boards on my 2010 hyundai santa fe with a light kit. Can you tell me where to connect the wires so the lights come on when i open the doors, and where these wires are located. Thank...

When you open the door there is a door jam switch located near the door hinge. This switch is spring loaded and completes the circuit when the door is open turning on your interior/dome lights. If you have your running board lights ran together or in parallel as you should you could either tie them in to the driver's side or both driver and passenger side if that is your preference. You would need to route them in a way where they would not be pinched or damaged in any way when the door is opened or closed which could cause a short and possibly other problems as a result

2003 lincoln navigator running board stay out on passanger side unless your are moving (they retract) passenger mirror does not adjust backig up message continues saying door ajar

You probably have a bad door switch that is located in the door latch. If the vehicle tells you which door is ajar I would try a good penetrating oil first and if not replace that door latch. It will take a bit of working the latch before it will start to work if thats all it is so have some patients with it.

The door switches are built in the latches on each of the doors, they are pron to sticking, leaving the security module to beleive the door is open.
The simple fix is to spray a generous amount of WD40 on, in, and around the door latches, then opening and closing the door a few times. I would start with the passenger door as`this is likely the culprit. do the rest of the latches as a prevenitive measure.

Hope this is of some help.

All doors open and close with remote except the passenger side ?

Sounds like the most likely cause is the electronic lock actuator is bad. will have to take door panel appart to check.

Passenger window only works from drivers switch

If you have already replaced the passenger side switch and it still doesnt work its a good chance that there is a pinched wire in the door itself. However usually it wont work from the drivers side either. But I still suggest looking there first.

Passenger side running board

I had the same problem with my Excirsion. Turns out it was the plug just inside the body where the running board lights connect. If it gets dirty, it causes intermittent contact. If you haven't checked this, that would be my first action. I bet the Navigator has the same type of plug there as the Excursion.
