Question about 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

Service Charging System

Help......I have a 2005 Avalanche, 4WD, 1500. I am still getting a "Service Charging System" display. With no phisical indications, only the volt meter periodically indicated charging at about 15-16 Volts. I took the battery in for testing, BATTERY BAD. I replaced the battery. Still recieved the code and volt meter indication and not at night the headlights pulse. No parts store could test the altenator, so I replaced it. I still get the "Service Charging System" indication, the volt meter periodically indicates 15-16 volts, I have run out of ideas and nearly out of money.......Brad

Thanks, it reset the computer and at this point, it seems to have cleared the problem. Before the "Service Charging System" indication usually took a few minutes of driving to display, unfortuantly I only had a coule minutes to let it run. I will see when I drive home after work. If it reappears, I will post again for further guidance. Thank you again.

Tested and no "Service Charging System" indication. Thanks again. This was one of the cheapest fixes I've seen.

Have a repair shop scan the vehicle for codes
& diagnose them

I fail to see,if your here, what you can do, without
professional tools & knowledge needed to use them

Volt gauge reading low but still charging 14.2 volts

the low charge # @ gauge could be caused by bad ground or high resistence in the wireing harness. Don't think it has anything to do with your 4x shifting prob I would check 4x switch and electric motor on transfere case.

I would say the transfer case is hanging up and destroying the motor., and no there are no recalls, maybe technical service letters but these are not recalls.

Check your voltage coming out of the alternator with a digital multimeter it should be 13-15 volts anything more or less then the alternator is faulty and will need to be replaced.

When my 2005 avalanche 1500 is running my lights flicker bad they go from bright to dim outside and inside the cab what could this be?

How is the charging system doing?...if the alternator is ok check for a bad ground at your battery. If thats ok, then the switch or the circuit board is the problem. GM had a big recall that included over 833,000 vehicles...all suvs. Yours may be included. If it is and the recall has not be done, your dealer will do it at no charge.

Call your dealer and find out...have your vin # ready...or you can call GM direct at 800-222-1020
I hope this helps.

Charging system Question

This is within "normal ranges" however it is an indication of wear on your alternator. If you start seeing a slow but steady decrease in your voltage it is probably time to check out the charging status of the alternator on your vehicle.
