Question about 1995 Honda Accord

95 Honda Accord LX will not Start - This is a doozy.

My 95 Accord will not start...it turns over, but does not actually start. The problem is getting progressively worse over the last 4 months. There was a time when it would start fine in dry weather, but not after it rained. Now, it hardly ever starts up. I have had the starter replaced at a car shop about 2 months ago, but that did not work. It is at the Honda Dealership right now. They replaced the main relay and told me to come pick the car up, but it would not start when I arrived. It has been there for 4 days and they cannot figure out what's wrong with it. Any suggestions?

So now that I've had a little more time off I've dug a little deeper...(the Honda Dealership could do nothing for me). When I turn the key 3/4 of the way, sometimes the feul pump engages (makes that sound) right away, sometimes it takes 2 seconds, sometimes 11 seconds, and then the car starts. Sometimes the fuel pump makes no noise and the car will not start. Took the back seat off and the wiring looks fine.

Sounds like you are on the right track with the fuel pump.... You may be able to go through the trunk. Look under the trunk liner and see if there is a sealed port the can be removed with screws. I did this once on a Honda (87) and once the access plate was removed, one could get to the tank and the float and pump. The port had wing tabs that you could unscrew. be very careful to remove the wires and when tapping on the tabs, do not make any sparks...

If your model does not allow access in this manner, you will have to drop it from the bottom. I would syphon out all the gas to reduce the weight to manage ounce under there..

Make sure all connections are installed like original and all grounds are in place to avoid any sparks.

This is very cautious work,,,, in fact you probably should do this on a nice day in the yard.

good luck.... ags

I live in NY and we just got hit by a storm temp went down to zero tried to start it up monday morning and it would not start up. sounds like the fuel pump is not as loud as it used to be. i unplugged the fuel pump fuse and i couldnt hear anything. plug it back it it sounds like its trying to pump. but i mean my pump used to be loud really loud now its very quite. When i had the fuse out it would turn over but not attemps at starting just cracking. it wont start even when i spray starting fluid in the air filter. but when i connect the fuse it sounds like every forth crack the motor sputters but nothing ever close to starting. I have a 95 honda Accord LX also, please anything i can do at home i will try. i am about to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump but not in the mood to do so if its not the issue.

The distributor is a high failure rate item on Hondas if I had to guess I would guess the distributor is the culprit. good luck.

94 accord d4 light

Hi

It could be from the sounds of it but just to be sure you need to count the flashes and pauses from the light because it is actually flashing a fault code at you.

If you want to check it I think it is located above the brake pedal on a bracket which also mounts a few other gadgets.

It will either be grey or orange.

Regards

Geordie
