Question about 2005 Nissan Sentra

1 Answer

Alternator not charger After my alternator belt was changed by the dealer 3 times in 2 years due to being noisy, the battery finally would not charge from alternator. Dealer charged battery and said everything was fine. Three days later - same problem. I bought a new battery and it died completely after 4 months - so now I'm in the same situation all over again. Anyone know why the alternator will not recharge the battery?

At present the (new) battery is dead. I'm going to try to boost it so I drive the car to a shop for an alternator "AVR Test" although I'm not sure whether that'll prove anything.
I have always suspected that the alternator was bad and I appreciate your input. If I can get this lemon running again, it's headed for a used car lot.

Why does belt to alternator keep skeaking + snapping?

Bad bearings can usually be detected simply by turning the unloaded pulley (wheel). They feel sort of gritty compared to a good bearing. The squealing and snapping is a concern, however. My best guess would be a belt tensioning issue. Squealing is usually caused by belt slippage due to an unusually loose belt. This leads to belt damage and eventually, breakage. Of course a bad idler pulley bearing or other defective component (A/C, P/S, Alt) can cause the same results.

While driving down road my kia 2002 spectra just died and now when I turn key it just clicks and all the dash lights and radio go out

was there any warning lights before dieing ?it would seem to be an alternator/charging problem,is the serpent belt ok? try jump starting or changing the battery, if she starts then check for ignition charge light staying on, if she still wont start/turnover could be a starter motor problem or a jammed alternator, if she wont turn over on a fully charged battery or jump leads remove the serpent belt that drives the alternator/AC /power steering etc try starting again if ok switch off and try turning each pulley driven by the serpent belt by hand the only one you should not be able to turn is the main crankshaft pulley, if any of the others are hard or impossible to turn you have found the problem

Squealing losing power not chargeing batter changed alternator

If the belt is 3 yrs old or older, change it. If it has oil or anti-freeze or grease on it, change it. If new, add more tension to the belt.

Replaced battery twice/dead cells

More then likely just a fluke on 2 batteries, but i would check the output on the alternator to make sure it is NOT over charging.

Noisy water pump pulley, alternator pulley..timing belt tensioner

I have a 1995 xj6....same problem. I replaced the belts, water pump, and the alternator. Still does it. As I play with the tension on the belt (belt that drives water pump, alternator) it goes away and comes back. If I remove the belt, the metal to metal screech stops. I then, with just the belt, turned the main pulley on the front of the engine, and there was the sound! The main pulley has 2 belts that run on it. Also, 2 pulley tracks. They SHOULD move simultaneously and be super meshed. But the rear one moves on its own under tension until it warms up and I guess, the bushing maybe expands. Now.....how do I fix it??????

Battery/alternator light off and on

Hi there!

It will be the alternator if your battery is under 2 years old.

Batteries lose their capacity after a few years due to a process known as sulphation. White crystaline deposits form, preventing electron flow.

This can actually be reduced and eliminated thesedays by installing a desulphator, or using one in conjunction with a charger. I've recovered 3 batteries so far since I made one, two of which were scrap due to sulphation.

The battery companies don't want you to know about these - that's why batteries only have a 3 year guarantee on them.

If the alternator is faulty, it can be serviced for 1/3 of the price of new.

Hope this provides a solution for you. If so, please take a moment to rate as Fixya! Thanks.
