Air filter compartment baffle noise-2003 Camry

Toyota 2003 4 Door Camry, Toyota technician said they are loose, besides a expensive complete replacement and having to listen to, any other possible ideas to reduce noise level, the car has been a very trust worthy vehicle, but my friends always ask what is that noise, technician also said this is common.

I was "baffled" by the noise so to speak. I had a recent oil change and the mechanic told me the problem is NOT covered by Toyota. My car was purchased last year with just over 36,000 miles. I now have just over 40000 miles and need to know if I can get this replacement with little or no cost to me. Please help.

What you are referring to is the noise heard form the air flowing thru the intake manifold. A Technical Service Bulletin has been issued by Toyota to address this issue.

The bulletin number is TSB 0034-08

Toyota will replace the manifold, at no cost to you, if your vehicle is under 3 years old (from the date of first use) and less than 36.000 miles on the odometer. It is also covered if you have an "extended service contract". Additionally, the warranty on this manifold, if your vehicle is a "California specification vehicle" that is sold, registered and operated in California, Maine, Massachuesetts and Vermont, is extended to 70 months and 70,000 miles.

Let me know the particulars of your vehicle.

    Thanks for choosing FixYa

Go inside the car, on the drivers side, from the floorboard look at the top of the gas pedal from the door. From the door, look just past the top of the gas pedal you will see the spot to pull the filter out. There are 2 parts to the filter in this car so replace both. One - Filter, 2 charcoal filter.

Could be the lower control are bushing, it apparently is an issue with that model year.  Big bucks (850 CDN$) to fix as the 'whole' front end needs to be partially dropped and both should be done at the same time.  A mechanic should be able to see if that is a problem while the car is on the hoist.  The mechanic should be able to point to the area or point where the contact is being made. Mine lasted till 100,000 km, I heard it on the second hand test drive ( at 90,00 km) and asked a buddy ( a Toyota Master Mechanic) about it and he made me aware of it; i bought the car anyways.

SOURCE: how to change air filter for toyota camry 2003

The steps are described below

  1. Turn off the car before changing the air filter. Don't start the car once the air filter has been removed, it acts as a barrier were the car to backfire.
  2. Locate the box that houses the air filter. Look in the front driver's side of the car, closest to the windshield, near the center of the engine compartment.
  3. Undo the clips that keep the housing lid secure. Lift the lid and compress the accordion-type tubing towards the engine.
  4. Remove the old filter from the housing unit. Clean any leaves or debris out of the box.
  5. Replace the old filter with a new filter that is made for the specific make and model year of your Toyota Camry. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2260, for a Camry manufactured from 2002 to 2007.
  6. Pull the lid back over to the air filter housing unit, and snap it in place. Reattach the clips to secure the lid.

Did you have the vehicle scanned for codes?
If so what were the codes?
Gas cap has to be pressure tested. Looking fine is not gonna cut it.
If you didn't have the vehicle scanned go to Autozone they will do it free. Then get back to me and we will take it from there.

the fuel filter should be located just below to the right of the air filter box. this is in the right side of the engine compartment. to change the fuel filter you must remove the air filter box. the top fitting is a banjo fitting and the bottom fitting is a standard screw in flared fitting.

if the air filter was recently inspected or changed, look for the vacuum hose to be disconnected from the valve located on the air filter cover. another source may be the gas cap either loose or with the tether strap caught under it preventing a proper seal
