I usually do them without taking all that stuff off that link tells you to, but it sure isn't easy sometimes. It really helps if you have a long offset, box-end wrench to fit over nut at idler pulley, or a good size ratchet with socket, because you need the leverage.Follow routing picture (you should have picture stuck on underside of hood or on top of rad already, somewhere around there) & get belt over & under all pulleys as picture shows, and save the pulley straight in front & down in front of you when leaning over fender for last. The belt right now won't go down below it yet, if all others are routed right. Now, CAREFULLY put your wrench or socket over the nut on the tensioner pulley, in a position that you will be able to pull it toward front of vehicle. The trick here is to be ready. Now pull forward hard on wrench/ratchet, and slip belt down under that last pulley, and release the tension on wrench slow if you can. If it looks good on all pulleys, get wrench's and hands out of the way & start engine, run it for a second or 2 , shut it off and have a good look to make sure belt is running in all grooves etc properly. Good luck, and be careful, it's not unusual for wrench to slip if not on nut good & skin a knuckle or 2, as well as pinch a finger. If your not up to my way, or inexperienced, it may be a little more work, but safer the way the link tells you. let us know how you make out. The local garage mechanic may even come over & do it for you, without charging an arm & leg.

P.S. Sometimes an extra set of strong hands can hold tensioner over while you slip belt over pulley.

Serpentine belt slipped off. 1998 Dodge Gran Caravan 3.0 litre 6 cylinder

On this particular model of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan I determined that the upper hose from the water pump had slipped off and anti-freeze squirted on the serpentine belt causing it to slip off. Once the belt gets slick it never stays on. I replaced the belt by loosing the tensioner which is the idler pulley located in the center of the configuration, A big thanks to user motor1258for the configuration diagram.

Serpentine belt replacement

What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0
