Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

95 nissan maxima runs rough

Car wont go past 2000rpm in any gear or in park cant figure out the problem. did notice the knock sensor has no resistance

    Exact same problem.Wont rev past 2000rpm in any gear,neutral and park. Car is auto by the way.

I would change the knock sensor first. if that doesn't fix the problem then a complete tune up would be the next step. but if the sensor has no resistance that is where i would start

Car wont start

Probably the gear selector switch on the transmission. You might try cranking it in neutral. The switch prevents you from cranking the engine in drive or reverse and also turns the backup lights on.

The only gear my car goes into is park

the transmission has electric rods that open and close the flow of fluids enabling it to shift first remove pan then remove electric rods test each for proper resistance thay will do this for free at auto zone.replace the ones you find bad if this dos not solve problem then disasemble trany and replace the rings you may have sezzed them together.but in most cases the replacement of the electrical flow control rods should solve the problem

When my car starts to move forward and hits first gear it switches quite hard, a noticeable jolt happens. also the engine light is on and i took it to a dealer and they said i have to replace a kock sensor

A snatching shift indicates low fluid. Put the car in park and with the engine running check the level on the transmission dip stick. If low you can top it up by adding extra fluid via the dip stick tube: add about a pint at a time and check the level between top ups. The knock sensor might have been triggered by heavy shifts so I would reset the error code and run the car with a full transmission and see if the code comes back. If the knock sensor if triggered the ECM on most modern cars may put the transmission into a limp home 'safe' mode. With luck in 1997 such things were yet to be enacted. If so just make sure the timing and all functions are OK on the engine.

It may be your map or maf sensor the connection to it to the manifold could be defective, have you noticed poor fuel mileage? if so then check it, also does it idle rought on start up or does it rev high when first started up? If it does you need to chek for vachum leak you can use a can of carburater cleaner to spray around hoses and see if it smooths out if it does at the area you spray it on that is your problem.

I have an Audi A4 with factory fitted parking sensors that emit a long beep when reverse gear is selected (so this tells me I have a fault) where do I find the control box to remove a sensor at a time to find which one or more are faulty?

Revs wont go higher than 2000rpm

Sounds like a MAF sensor problem, clean it 1st, if no change replace it.
