Question about Mitsubishi Pickup

1 Answer

I have 93 pajero 2.8 diesel.it starts fine in the morning, but when i drive off it gives the impression it has run out of fuel.It will then start, but not easily and it can do this a couple of times before it sorts its self out and will be fine for rest of the day.i was told that the fuel pump may need a gasket replaced, but i have a good look to see if there might be some evidence of diesel around the pump but it appears fine.Ive been told that the fuel pump gasket replacement would be expensive and would want to be sure that this was the problem and not something else.I would be gratefull for some advice.

Hi ..... It sounds like you're getting air into the system overnight. Diesel won't come out but air will go in. Check the fuel filter is on tight and that any soundproofing on top of the engine hasn't caused a stress fracture in/on any of the injector lines. Find where your manual primer is and before you start it in the morning give it a couple of pumps. What I have seen in the past is the positve live feed to the pump corrode (green) and after cleaning and tightening up the crimp all is fine.
Let us know the outcome.

Pajero not startingI have Pajero IO 2003, GDI 1.830 turbo. When I start it in the morning, I must try 3 time for it to start. Please help

a few things could be the cause , one is glow plugs , two is injectors are dirty which usually gives black smoke out exhaust , three is injection pump leaking , and four dirty fuel filter . these are things I would check .

How do I replace the fuel pump relay in a 94 pajero (petrol V6)?

My Pajero 1994 starts well in the morning and goes well, but after 30 minutes drive then stop, it wont start again until the next day or maybe two days later

4d56 Pajero Turbo Diesel, blow's alot of smoke under load. Replaced airfilter and using injector additive atm. Still blows a heap of smoke.

If your car is fitted with Manifold Air Pressure sensor (MAP) check that is operating OK. Sometimes if this is as at fault it can send the wrong signal that the engine is running lean and the engine computer (ECU) in turn compensates by injecting extra fuel. The clouds of smoke are unburnt fuel so not only does it look bad but it is wasteful/costly. The fault on a MAP can evolve slowly and therefore evades the computer diagnostics check for some while before being picked up. Also on the list of things to look at are:- 1) the mass air sensor on the air filter ducting 2) the EGR exhaust gas recirculation valve (perhaps needs a thorough clean) 3) the differential pressure feedback exhaust (DFPE) sensor - lies upstream of the EGR but if faulty can combine to lead to errors in fuel injection quantities.

Car works fine untill left overnight then wont start in the morning have to prime the diesel with the inline suction device under the bonnet then starts and runs fine

Air is getting into the fuel system allowing the diesel to drain back to the tank. Check fuel filter is tight, look along fuel line for leaks at any of the joints etc.

more likely the glow plug circuit . try running through the glow plug cycle 2 or 3 times before trying to start
if it starts better your problem is in that circuit

if this helps please leave feedback
