1997 GMC defrost problem

I have a 1997 GMC Sierra. No matter where I put the heater knob, it blows out the center vents. How can I get it to blow out the defrost for the front windshield.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On most vehicles, your described problem would refer to the vents stuck in just one position. This is often caused by detached linkages. while the problem sounds relatively easy, it actually involves considerable amount of work since these vents/sliders/panes are rather hard to have access to.

For a more specific detailed plan of action, may I recommend one of our resident expert, another member of the FixYa community, emissionwiz who have considerable experience on GM vehicles.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Air goes straight to defrost

You have a vacuum leak! Defrost is the default position. You need to find vent vacuum lines on passenger side near firewall under hood or under dash.
