Don't know to turn off headlights

Our headlights are always on and we don't know how to turn them off. They come on automatically at dusk and turn off at dawn, but we don't know how to turn them off if we need to. Any ideas>

On some models there is a dimmer switch that says it controls the headlights. Move the switch up until it clicks, and then back down again. You may have to mess with a little bit, some switches are like combination locks. Of course, some models you can't turn them off short of pulling of fuse. And for the switch i describe earlier, it will only turn them off while you are out of a drive gear, once you shift into gear, the lights will turn back on. Merry Christmas!

Yes sounds like the sensor.
Make sure you install the correct bulb type (voltage and wattage) to replace the old one.
Also check all your wiring and plugs to make sure you have good reliable electrical connections, they need to be tight, free from obvious dirt and corrosion.
If you have a multimeter do a Continuity test on the wiring
Note: When testing the circuit continuity, be sure that the power of the circuit has been shut down and all capacitors have been discharged fully. (this is to protect your device and in high voltages to protect you)
This should help you identify if you have a wiring issue.

Headlights don't come on automatically

One way to turn off the automatic headlights when the ignition is to apply the parking brake. That dinging sound you hear when you shift into drive is also common with the parking brake applied.

Release the parking brake.

Daytime running lights , bypass switch

The switch is automatic when you turn the car on. DRL stay lit as long as it is not dusk, once dusk the DRL automatically turn off and headlights turn on. Camaros are made in Canada, and DRL are universal throughout North America. What is happening is that the shed where the inspection is taking place is dark enough to simulate dusk , and the photocell is turning off the DRL and turning on the headlights. Someone at the inspection station is misinformed. DRL D=Daytime not Nighttime, which the darkness in the shed is simulating.

Yes ! The headlight is more than cracked, which is allowing moisture in. the sensor is not part of the headlight {dust to dawn operation}. If you replace headlight. You will have no problem with operation of lights.

All exterior lights are on when engine is started and wont turn off until engine is off, could it be the switch itself?

Is this happening all the time or just at night? The car is equipped with automatic daytime running lights which automatically turns on the full lighting system at dusk and off at dawn or other lowered daylight situations. Do you have something on the dashboard covering the daytime running light sensor? Is the headlight switch turned to the off position?

How to adjust Dusk Sensing Headlights on a Subaru outback.

Hello, to my knowledge there is no way to do this adjustment manually. You must hook up the Subaru scan tool and adjust the sensitivity that way. If the dealer has already calibrated it once they may have just not desensitized it enough or the sensor is faulty and is not accepting the recalibration protocol and is biased to full sensitivity. In this case the sun-load sensor must be replaced. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...

Having problems with day lights not automatically coming on at dusk or at night

There is an ambient light sensor located on you dash that tells your light control module to turn the headlights on when it gets dark enough. If the sensor has gone bad, the feature will no longer work.
You will need to have the LCM (light control module) scanned for codes to see what the fault is. Once we know what the code is we can go from there to fix the issue.
Let me know.
