Key stuck in igntion

Have the same problem occasionally. Am trying to pinpoint when it occurs, but have yet to isolate a set of circumstances that trigger the situation. Occasionally, I can not turn the ignition switch key to the final position so that it can be removed - then, after moving the shift lever and or steering wheel, it may finally move to the final position to remove the key.

The key being stuck in the ignition is because the cars gears wont go into park all the way.. The shifter is the problem with this. You need to take it to a mechanic so they can take your actual shifter apart and fix the little button you press on the actual shifter. Sounds dumb, but thats what they did for me, and the key comes right out. Also, if you dont get it fixed soon, you will have some horrible times ahead of you .. I have a 2005 Malibu and been having recurring problems with the key not turning in the ignition. It happens about once every two weeks and it's a real pain in the **** because I have to fiddle with it and...

I would replace the ignition cylinder. the tumbler are wearing funny and this is causing the key to not turn or get stuck . I believe you have a pass key system on your car too . so after the cylinder is replace or rebuild you may need to do a relearn with the new lock cylinder. Not sure if you can rebuild the key cylinder and if a lock smith would have the right tumbler codes . but i know for sure if you buy the lock cylinder from a dealership they can code the tumbler to match the original key

Ignition on my 2004 jeep grand Cherokee is locked, how do I unlock the ignition? Keys goes in ignition, door chim works when key is in ignition. But the key won't turn it's stuck.

tap the ignition lock cylinder with the plastic end of a scrwedriver (with the key removed). then insert the key and try to start. Try this several times. If you get it to turn immediately replace the igntion lock cylinder. The cylinder needs to be in the on position in order for the lock button to be depressed so that the cylinder can be removed from the housing.

If you still can't get it to turn than you will have to drill out the lock button in order to get the old lock cylinder out. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have some experience and understand what you are doing.

The lock button can be accessed by removing the lower steering column cover.

My 2004 Impala won't start. Computer message is

try anoth igntion key, if not a good moble auto locksmith should be able to diag this, if he can't you'll need to tow it to your local GM dealership. It could be the igntion cylinder, but there is more items involved in the security system besides the igntion cylinder & you need the proper test equipment for testing.

Got a secarety light on

most likely the tiny wire from the igntion cylinder to the security module is broken. First try using another key, if the other key didn't fix it you'll most likely need to replace the igntion cylinder.

1998 cheverlet pickup, security light came on and dont know how to reset it???

can't be reset. the security system consist of the igntion key, igntion key cylinder, wire harness and module.
the most likey cause of this is the tiny wire harness from the igntion cylinder to the module is broken where it goes into the cylinder.
you can try using another igntion key, if still persist you'll need to get this fixed, sooner or later this will not allow you to start the engine.

Key Does Not Work

It could be that chip inside key just went bad. Do u have a 3rd key? That works? If so take the 2 good keys and turn the igntion to run postion for 3 secs each then do the same for the 3rd key and this will reprogram it if the chip is ok. If you do not have 2 good keys then u will have to have a scan tool that will link up with PATS system and perform security access to reprogram it.
