Never heard of the wrong anti-freeze. You're best bet is to check the temp sensor and replace it. It is what tells the system fans to "cool down"

SOURCE: anti freeze leak

hi are you overheating and are you having to fill it up because it is leaking or were you just toping up and is it coming out of the overflow on the expansion bottle to find a leak that at first appears not to be leaking the best way to find it is to put a pressure tester on it see if the pressure goes down as it will if there is a leak but then you will see it and don,t take the water cooling systems caps off when hot yates210456

SOURCE: Which anti-freeze goes in a 2001 4.7L dodge

Your Dodge requires extended life HOAT coolant. Your mechanic is correct, you should not be using the Green coolant which is conventional coolant. You also cannot use DexCool or a universal coolant. Zerex G-05 HOAT coolant is what you need to use and it is yellow. You can also just buy MOPAR HOAT coolant from your dealer. The HOAT stands for (hybrid organic acid technology). You must use this type coolant.

I drained the cooling system and refilled with antifreeze. Now it runs hot. I know the water pump and thermostat are ok

If you filled it with straight anti-freeze, it will run hot. Anti-freeze needs to be diluted with water to work properly. Use the guidelines on the jug to figure the proper mixture for your area. If unsure, usually 50-50 is a good mix (but I live in the SE US). I was guilty of the straight anti-freeze usage in the '80's and was told I had to mix it...and when I did, everything worked properly.
Hope this helps...if you didn't use straight antifreeze, then this is of no help :)

I have the old green anti-freeze in my vehicle , the main heater hose is getting warm but no heat, does the anti-freeze matter ?

NO, but thats the incorrect anti-freeze. It should be ORANGE Dexcool. Both hoses in and out should be HOT. if they are not, flush the heater core.
