Can't get the keys out of the ignition

I have a 2005 Escape Hybrid. Today I have had problems getting the vehicle to go into gear. When I get it into gear it's fine but when I stop I can't get the keys out of the ignition. It's really cold. Could this be a problem Any ideas Please let me know...Thanks...Bill

It could also be a nuteral safty switch if the POV is an automatic. the switch prevents the car from starting or ingaging any gear/.

Hi Bill, I had the same problem with a Mitsubishi Pajero, I pulled up and put the gear lever into park turned off the ignition and blow me I tried and tried to get the key's out.
After 3/4s of an hour I realised the selector button on the Auto gear stick was stuck in! with a bit of fiddling I got it out and Bingo the key's too.
Later a little Wd40 and it hsn't done it since. So maesure he lever is well into park, parking brake on and button all te way out.
Good Luck! and Merry Christmas,

if you are talking about the transmission then the trans needs to be flushed a simple drain and fill is not enough the torque converter holds a lot of fluid and if it is cold where you are maybe frozen.auto trans fluid can mix with antifreeze.

Code p0171 ford escape hybrid. Vehicle stalls and goes into shutdown mode and won't keep running long. Pressure at idle is 39 psi. I perform the key on engine running test and it start running again with...

The 0171 code is a lean condition defect. This means the engine is getting extra air from somewhere. Could be a loose vacuum hose, bad intake gasket, or something else.

My 2008 Ford Escape has power. Lights work, wipers, everything works that has power but when I try to turn the key to start it nothing happens. I mean I don't even hear a clicking noise

Check the relays and fuses in the Power Distribution box under the hood. If all are good check the Alarm circuit ignition kill switch. If you didn't get the Alarm built into the vehicle but had it installed after you bought it remove the fuse from the Alarm power line to disable the kill switch. I did have this problem once and it turned out to be the battery on mine, a 2005 with Alarm built in. Unless you have the Hybrid version you could get in 2008 the vehicles are basically the same.

I can not get the key to turn in the ignition to start the Ford Escape Hybrid

The steering wheel lock may be putting pressure on the lock mechanism. Try turning the steering wheel a little either way as you turn the ignition key.
