Almost sure the trans has failed, nothing for it but to go to your friendly neibourhood trans specialist for a quote on a rebuild.

My problem is similar... except it still goes in reverse, but when in drive around 25 MPH it acts as if I put it in neutral and the rpms rise... is mine toast also?

Car wont go 30 mph

if when you get to 30 miles per hour the rpms are excessively high then the 3rd gear on you're transmission is out. you can try changing the transmission filter and fluid but most likely will not help and you will have to replace the transmission or have it rebuilt anyways. I'm assuming its an automatic transmit ion and therefore if high rpms at 30 miles per hour its sadly the transmission

check the transmission fluid. if it is dark and smells burnt with debris in the fluid. you need a ****** repair. but before you jump to conclusions. change fluid and filter in ****** first, and see if this helps. I know on the nissans there is quit a few transmission complaints. especially automatics. but do fluid and filter first. then go from there ! good-day ! and may god bless.

The first thing to check is the fluid level in the transmission. If quite low, look for red leakage on the floor where you park. Suggest you find a quality auto transmission shop to check this out before you require very expensive service. Good luck!

What are some issues to look for that would cause car not to move in any gear, but you can feel it wants to go when raising rpms. Could this be the trans is gone or something minor. Helping a friend and...

Lets assume the park brake is off. If you put it in gear, forward or reverse and the engine revs but care doesn't move, you are either very low on automatic transmission fluid or the transmission is burned up. Check the fluid level. If normal smell the fluid. If it smells burned, there is no doubt that the transmission is burned up.
