Question about 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

The left windshield wiper on my 1989 Dodge Caravan isn't wiping regularly; the motor runs, but the wiper will sometimes move partially up, sometimes won't move, and occaisionally will swing all the way left and off of the windshield entirely. The arm is free and manipulatable, it has no resistance to realignment, but only partially moves when turned back on.

The windshield wiper motor for my 1997 dodge caravan turns on but the arms do not move. how do i fix it?

the wiper arms are pressed on by the nut securing them on the stud. Make sure they are snug. If so the studs are stripped meaning a new wiper transmission is needed

1996 dodge grand caravan windshield wiper motor is running but the wipers will not move do you have any idea of what the problem is and a way to fix it??

the linkage could have come off the motor itself there is a locking clip that sometimes breaks and allows the linkage to come would have to remove the under hood cover to gain access to the motor along with the removing the wiper arms to remove the assembly so you can work on it there is the washer hose that will have to be removed also.

My wind shild wiper are not moving but the motor work..

windshield wipers are connected to whats called a Wiper Transmission. Its the unit that actually engages the wipers to the wiper motor. sometimes that disconnects. also some wiper bolts will loosen right at the base of the wiper arm. its rare that both wiper bolts will loosen at the same time. probably the wiper tranmission assembly somewhere has come apart.

When wipers are on they do not move but you can

If you can move the wipers freely all the way across the windshield then they have either come unhooked from the wiper motor aor the transmission in the wiper motor is stripped. You will have to take the motor off the firewall to check because they are attached on the back of it. Normally the wiper arms are attached to the wiper motor by a nut or sometimes a clip. If that is intact the transmission is bad and the wiper motor will need to be replaced. If the nut is loose or missing tighten it up and check the wipers before you put it all back together to be sure they work. Use a lock washer if you can do this to keep the nut from coming off again. Hope this helps.

Dodge caravan 1996 During cold weather wiper malfunction

Sounds to me like the "parking" contacts inside the wiper motor have broken off / worn.
Needs to remove wiper moter / dismantle to inspect. (On some models you can purchase these contacts.)

The windshield wipers are stuck vertically and now

This sounds like the wiper motor has failed. You can pick one up at the local parts store. If not mechnically savvy, I would recommend taking to shop for working in tight areas that these can be. But, otherwise, the motor is on the fire wall, unplug, remove screws(4), exchange with new, and reassemble as removed. I hope this helps.

Front wipers stopped working but you can hear the motor run also

If the wipers were buried under snow/ice or frozen to the windshield, you may have blown the red 10 amp fuse located in cavity 9 in the fuse block located on the bottom left side of the instrument panel near the parking brake pedal.
In order of easiest to check:
1) ensure wipers not frozen to windshield.
2) ensure wiper arms are not loose on the pivot stud,
3) check the red 10 amp fuse.
You stated that "you can hear the motor". Which motor do you hear? The engine or the wiper motor?
If you hear the wiper motor, then the fuse is alright. Try 1) and 2) above.

Windshield wipers not working

if there is 12V at the motor, the motor has gone bad. replace accordingly.
to test, disconnect and put 12V directly to the motor contacts.
