You first have to see if you have a fuel or spark problem. The easy way is to spary starter fluid in throttle and see if it runs for a few seconds. If it does you have a fuel problem, possible fuel pump not running. If it does not you have a spark problem which can be a bad module, coil or rotor.

Replacement of speedometer on 1988 F150 V6 5 Speed

Easiest to just get a new gauge cluster -

Remove the dash bezel (some screws/clips), then remove the 4-5 screws that hold the cluster in (can't remember exactly how many). Pull the gauge panel partially out, remove wires and detach speedo cable.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Can it be Done, yes. Easy, No. Why don't you just fix what you have? What is the problem with the hydraulic clutch?

Checked battery and charging system and it was fine

A simple load test on your current battery will tell you if it's the battery. Double check all connections are clean, tight & in good shape. Usually autoparts places, or garages will test it free.

My 1988 F-150 wont start but will turn over.

Look in this direction. You have solved the possible issues with the starting, now move on to checking your fuel and transmission. I suggest you look at the wires coming off the transmission first, then check to see if the TBI or carb are dry i.e. no fuel. The sound you could be hearing is your fuel pump or a normal sound coming from the starter switch. If you can give me more detail. I may be able to help more. bruceemon@peoplepc.com

i was able to loosen the switch and slide it up the shaft and use wire ties to hold it to the top of the shaft. no more problems. the only down fall is that the truck will now start in gear.
