Question about 1990 Chevrolet K2500

1 Answer

I have a 1989 GMC K2500 Starts and runs strong. After runing about 20 min it quits bad. You can crank on it and it turns over but will not start. Great spark at the coil but can smell fuel. Let it set for 15 min and it starts right back up. and things start all over again. replaced the mod in the dist and no help any thoughts?

Sounds like you have leaking injectors. take the air cleaner assembly off and watch the injectors while the truck is running. If you see any drips of fuel coming from the injectors, the are at least dirty or possibly bad. I would recommend running some Seafoam injector cleaner through your fuel system and see if that helps.

The other thing to think about is the coil itself. Coils are notorious for working when they are cold, but then qutting when hot.

My 1998 gmc snonma votec wont start it cranks and cranks and after about 20 mins it starts after that i can shout it off and it will fire back up fine then a day will go by and it dose the same thing

You have to check the fuel pump pressure to make sure it is supplying sufficient fuel pressure..Try turning the switch to on but do not start..now listen for the fuel pump to prime the system..it should run for 4-5 seconds the shut off..now try and start..if it is fully primed it should start...note although you are getting some gas dosent mean the pump is ok...sometimes it starts to go bad and then all at once it will let you down for good...have it checked out..good luck

1989 F350 will not start. Has strong battery, good spark, fuel pump is running, strong crank.

have you done an oil change lately? those older trucks, if you don't service them regularly, they quit starting. have seen it many times.
