My 1988 F-150 wont start but will turn over.

Did you have the charging system diagnosed or did you just guess at it being the alternator . The charging system is computer controlled . The starter isn't working because low power , battery dead . Is there B+ voltage at the wire on the back of the alternator .B+ voltage at pin 3 at the connector pluged into the alternator .
Charge the battery use a volt meter an test for B+ voltage at the places i mention . No check engine light ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .

you say it clicks is your starter solenoid is going bad .but before anything check your altenator again

try a new starter silenoid

i have a 1989 toyota pickup 4x4 3.0 v6 changed the starter and only starts if its warm out brand new batt. new starter. help me with problem

You need to change that solinoid.Just remove the starter motor and have a new one fitted.

if when you jump it starts its your batt if if keeps dying it your alternator the clicking sound is your statrer which means thats good try the batt when you buy a new one it will have a warranty soo if it dies because the alt you will get a new one batt for free (the alt charges the batt)

The Batt does not have a full charge or it is the wrong cranking AMP's for the car... find out if it is the right Batt and also that it is put on a "slow charge" over night or at least 6 hr's

You first have to see if you have a fuel or spark problem. The easy way is to spary starter fluid in throttle and see if it runs for a few seconds. If it does you have a fuel problem, possible fuel pump not running. If it does not you have a spark problem which can be a bad module, coil or rotor.
