Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Water on top end of engine below intake cover

I have a 1997 grand prix that is getting water under the intake manifold. We first thought it was a cracked head gasket but upon replacing have the same problem. Have a second engine that we installed. After about two minutes of running fine, started sputtering and ended up with the same problem. Water is getting into all six cylinders. Have been unalbe to troubleshoot where the water is coming from. Has to be something simple that we are missing.

This may not help, but my 1990 Ford Bronco has a small coolant line running through the throttle housing,(which I bypassed after the metal pipe broke)- "IF" you have a similar setup, maybe it is cracked on the interior and leaking in that way.

How to remove intake manifold for 1997 pontiac grand prix

You have to remove anything that is connected and in the way of the intake. Remove the fuel rail, the EGR valve and supply pipe from the manifold, the map sensor, the vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator, the alternator and support bracket, the water pipes for the throttle body, and the bolts that hold it down.

My 1999 Grand Prix GTP won't start after changing

Double check the wiring harness to make sure it did not get pinched under the manifold or the top cover. It is common for a single wire to get pinched and shorted and cause this.

Where is the engine coolant temp sensor located on a 2004 grand prix gt

On the 3.8 liter the coolant temp sensor is right below the the thermostat in the intake manifold on the drivers side of the engine.

The thermostat is under the housing that is bolted to the intake plenum that the upper hose is attached to.

There is a vacuum line that goes from the bottom of the map sensor on a 1997 potiac grand prix. What does it go to.

The vacuum line goes from the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor directly to the Intake Manifold.

Somewhere on the intake manifold there should be a place to connect it.

Can a rear exhaust manifold gasket on a '97 Grand Prix be changed from underneath the car?

Probally not. You may be able to remove the dogbone/s and rotate the engine foward, with removing the valve cover, you maybe able to replace it from the top.

It is on the top of the engine near the throttle body. It is in the "valley" of the V8 engine, which might not make it immediately visible, but looks like it would be easy to access. It points upward out of the top of the engine, but is below the level of the intake runners. You'll have to remove the "engine beautification cover" to reach it.

Replacing 90 pipe assembly part on 1997 Grand Prix GT

If its the same as my GTP, its just under the Supercharger right in the middle of the intake.
Just pull it out, its only held in with a O-ring. When you replace it, make sure you lube the gasket with grease so its easier to put back in, and less likely to nick the O-ring.
