Question about Mercury Cougar
There are factory wires that dim the factory radio lights ..........that wire has probably melted to a constant powered wire and is back feeding the dash lights...........Check the wires that got burned and remove any melted wires........also the fire\short could have damaged the dash light dimmer switch and or the head\park light switch..(you may have to do some serious digging to find your problem in the wiring.i have seen this problem before and in the most serious cases had to replace the harness behind the dash)
hope this helps........Good luck!
