Open Question

1998 isuzu rodeo 3.2L MFI fuel washing down plugs

Replaced head gaskets after re-assembled won't start fuel presure is 48lbs all the injectors blink with noid light engine has spark. Turn engine over it fires for 1-2 seconds shuts off. All the plugs are wet with fuel, Pull all plugs dry them off blow out cylinders with air re-install plugs and try to start ...engine fires 1-2 sec shuts off try to start again and turns over but no fire. If the plenium butterflies were installed incorrectly would the cause the injectors to flood ? any suggestions would be welcome.

SOURCE: 1992 Isuzu Rodeo Distributor wires 3.1L engine

Hi,
Isuzu seem to have complicated things by changing engines, firing orders and even direction of rotation! As you can see, they've numbered the cylinders the other way than the 3.2L.

The Firing sequence for the 3.1 (traditional distributor) 6 cylinder is as follows -

d6e5b2a.jpg

If you take the distributor cap off, there should be a "No.1" formed on the inside. Stick a lead on this before you put the cap back on and go from there.
As leads are different lengths, you may have to swap a few to find the best fit.

I think 2 of them will look out of place - but that's the way it's designed. Just make use of clips for holding them neatly.

Thanks for using Fixya.

SOURCE: 2000 isuzu rodeo flooding itself sparkplugs wet with feul

There are a couple of possibilities - the engine coolant temp sensor could be bad - telling the engine injectors to give too much fuel. Also a single clogged injector can cause a lean condition that in turn makes the oxygen sensor tell the injectors to richen up. There are a couple of less likely things too, but you can test the injectors by pulling one plug wire at a time to make sure all cylinders are working. If they are, it's probably the ect sensor

SOURCE: 1995-96 Isuzu Rodeo transmission swapable?

No they are not compatible. They changed the crank between 95 and 96. I have a 96 that needed an engine swap and the dealer that I bought it from was paying for the engine, he bought a 95 engine and after a month of trying the mechanic said no way no how, the crank between the two is different.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

Since the spark plug is not coming in contact the engine light is flashing. Otherwise take your car to the nearest auto zone and check if any code is stored in the computer or not to get it fixed. However a flashing engine light means the ECU has detected a misfire strong enough to damage the catalyst in the cat.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

It sounds as though you may have a faulty fuel pressure regulator. In order to accurately pinpoint the problem, you will have to perform a OBD-I diagnostic scan.

All the best,
