That little red light is your anti-theft system and it does not drain enough power to drain your battery unless your car is sitting for a year. I would check for a draw. Unhook your negative battery cable and hook a test light between the cable and the negative terminal. If the light lights up brightly, then you have something draining the battery at a significant rate. I start by unhooking the main cable off of the alternator, this is a prime place to start for a battery drain. If unhooking the alternator does not dim the test light then move on to the power distribution center and pull fuses and relays one at a time until the light dims, this will at least narrow down the circuit that needs attention.
Remove the negative battery terminal, then hook up a test light to negative terminal which you removed, just clip the test lamp to the cable terminal. Connect opposite end of light to the negative post on battery. start pulling fuses one by one from fuse box. When test light goes out, that's the circuit that's draining battery. ( let sit a couple of minutes then pull fuses). God-Bless you and your family.
Fully charge the battery, then disconnect it from the car by removing the negative battery terminal. Wait about 24 hours (or however long you state the battery won't hold a charge), then reconnect the negative terminal and try and start the car. If the battery did not drain while it was disconnectesd, then your car is draining the battery while it sits.
Here is how to detect a drain in system! Use a test light, Hook up test light to the negative terminal on battery. ( unhook terminal first.) connect opposite end of test light to negative on battery. If a drain, light will be on. Start pulling fuses from fuse box. when the test light goes out, that is the problem curcuit. let sit 3to5 minutes before pulling fuses. Good-Day!
Turn you healights on. Turn the car on. If the headlights burn bright, the battery is good. If the engine does not turn over, the problem is probably the starter bendix. The starter bendix is a part of the starter. Have your starter checked at starter repair shop or where you buy your car parts. (You have to unhook the battery terminal from the negative battery post before taking off the starter.)
If the lights did not burn bright, and the engine doesn't turn over. You could have a bad connection. On the Volvo, it has a positive wire and 3 wires that attach to the positive battey post. I clean the battery post with a battery post brush. I clean the terminal ends of the other 3 wires that attach to the positive battery terminal. I use a wire brush to clean the 3 wire terminals. I spray the wire terminals with a electrical motor cleaner (or electrical cleaner) that I pick up at the automotive parts store. Don't spray it on the paint of the car. I put wires on one side of the positive battery terminal. I put a nut on the battery bolt. I tighten another bolt to it. I tighten it tight. I put the positve battery terminal on the positive battery post and tighten (don't tighten this to tight). The positve terminal should be tight enough not to move (but don't tighten it to tight.)
If you clean the positive battery post and negative battery post, you should have bright front headlights when the car is turned on. If not, you have a battery or alternator problem or both.
i once had a similar problem with a different make of car, which turned out to be one of the battery cells. It failed to hold the charge and would go flat easily when the temperature was colder in winter. If the battery is new and the disconnection supports this, then these cars have so many relay switches and solenoids that only an auto electrician can do it by trial and error to find the leakage......
In order to reach the negative terminal to the battery in a 2000 Vebture (I have one) you must first remove the fuse housing. The fuse housing is a large black box that sits atop the battery. There os a single bolt that holds it in place located in fron of the battery bolted into the lip of the motor bay. Unscrew this, then unhook the fuse housing from the cross bar running from the back roght to the front of the motor bay. This is a tight fit so watch your knuckles. Once the fuse housing is out, the negative terminal is located on the backside of the battery. It is a tight squeeze black is negative, red is positive.
you could be draining the alternator and battery with the new stereo..depending on how you hooked it up you might try charging the battery back up.you were supposed to take off the pos cable not the negative
