Question about 1998 Kia Sportage
This is older but i will still respond for future problem solvers. the kia can switch from 2hi to 4hi anywhere under ~40mph u only have to stop to switch into 4lo. so if your shifter doesn't move check the linkage under the kia it could be frozen from not being used

Press the break and put the car in to neutral. Now while holding the break down shift the nob to 4x4 then put the car in drive. you can also keep the car in drive and shift to 4x4 but you have to bring the car to a complete stop before doing so, and the break must be held down (like at a stop light)
