The easiest way to test this is to carry out a compression test. This test will determine if any valves are bent. The test is very easy to carry out. 1.obtain a compression tester. 2. remove all spark plugs. 3. screw tester into spark plug hole. 4. with your foot on the accelarator, crank engine. 5. read the tester reading and write it down. eg. cyl 1 175psi cyl.2 170psi etc. if you have a bent valve one cylinder will be very low compared to the rest.

How can you tell if you car is out of time

If the belt broke while the engine was running, it is very possible you have bent valves. A compression test would confirm it. Bent valves won't let the cylinder build compression. Without compression the air/fuel mixture won't burn and so no power is produced from that cylinder. I would recommend the compression test. If all cylinders are uniformly low, check your timing marks on the belt sprockets- you may have gotten the belt off a tooth or two.

If the timing belt broke when the engine was running, I would say that you may have bent some valves. If I remember correctly, Chrysler engines stopped being the 'free-wheeling' type after the Acclaim. That is, there is sufficent clearance between valves and pistons to ensure no damage should the cam belt break with the engine running.

As you have had the engine running, it would be a good idea to give it a compression / leak-down test. Unfortunately fuel injected cars do not back-fire through the intake system as a carb type would do, if a valve were bent.

Timing belt Broke are valves worped?

Hello momma_green: My name is Roger and I will help you. The 2005 Chevy Aveo 1.6 engine is a interference motor. That means if the timing belt breaks. The valves will be bent. I have one in my shop now that the belt broke on it. Bent all 16 valves and damaged all 4 pistons. This is not a forgiving motor. I wish I could tell you good news but I cant. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

2001 golf, changed timing belt, now car only goes to 2800 rpm

check that you havent bent a valve in the cylinder head. Do a compression check on each of the cylinders if it is low on any this more than likely a bent valve resulting in no power from that cylinder.

the timing belt should be changed every 60,000 miles.
your engine is an interference engine, which means if the timing belt breaks or skips, the valves will hit the pistons.
if your belt broke you will have bent valves. so the heads will need to come off and bent valves replaced.
