I put a new serpentine belt on and the thing won't stop squealing. I also put a new power steering pump on at the same time and that may have caused the problem. The guy didn;t know how to work the pulley remover and tried hammering it on. I made him stop and took it back to the wreaker and they put a new pulley on but the tool broke off and the pulley itself had about 1/8 inch of play would that cause the squealing?

Hi my name is Allen!

To help you I need to know what engine you have?

For example; 3.0 liter or 3.3 liter

If it is the 3.0 liter the nut for the tensioner is toward the firewall side of the engine tucked tightly under the exhaust manifold, very hard to get too.

If its the 3.3 liter you would have already seen it, both have only one nut holding the tensioner on. This one is easier.

My power steering belt came off on my 98 dodge caravan ..2.4 liter engine..whats the esiest way to put it back on properly?it didnt was forced off by snow when i went through a snow bank

On the Caravan, there are several "pulleys" on the front of the engine. One of which is called the "tensioner", The tensioner has either a slot in it(that you can use 3/8 drive ratchet, or extension in it) , or a Hex shaped, or bolt head shaped piece on it. And it is spring loaded, for auto adjustment. And in most cases, there is a sticker under the hood that will show you the belt routing diagram.(if not, check your owners manual in the glove compartment). You will need to loosly position the belt over the pullys as shown in the diagram. And then using your tool to move the tensioner pulley back, will give the belt enough room to place it over the last remaining pulley. Then just release the tension that you have on your tool, and remove it, and you should be in business.

What is the easiest way to replace a tensioner pulley on a 2002 Dodge caravan. Do I need to replace the whole assembly? Or can I replace just the pulley. It has the 3.3 flex fuel, if that makes a...

you will have to replace the whole assembly, the spring that keeps the belt tight is in the middle and cannot be replaced without considerable pain and suffering. use a 1/2 inch ratched and release the tension on the belt, carefully slip it off the pully. keep as much pressure on the belt as you can, use someting and tie it out of your way, keep the tension tight this will prevernt you from having to mess with lining up the belt on all the pully's. the tensioner is held on with 4 13 mm bolds (1/2 in SAE ) may work as well. wiggle it a little, ant it will pop off. . reverse the process. Make sure the serpantine belt is filly within all the pully's before you start it or you'll be replacing a belt as well.

I need to change the alternator on my 2000 dodge grand caravan sport. Can someone please tell me how to release tension on the serpentine belt? Thank You.

I have to use a 15mm open/closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley. Use the closed end of the 15mm and pull toward you and use the end of a cresent wrench to use for additional torque. You can slip the belt over the fixed pulley (not the tensioner pulley). Give yourself more room by not using the hood bar and use instead a broomstick on the right side to prop the hood open. I recommend a goodyear gator belt too. Good Luck, you'll need it with a caravan. Its on the left side. its the easyest pully to see.

Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate.

199 dodge caravan 3.3 tensioner

yes you must jack the vehicle up put it on jack stands for safety, and around the power steeirng pump under neath you will see the nut that is holding it you will need a long extension and a swivel.
should be 15, 14, or 13 mm
when installing the belt itself, you must put it on the idler pulley last that is the other smooth pulley, otherwise it will be a bear to get on. good luck.

How to change a serpentine belt

I am not familiar with the caravan however the tension pulley should be spring loaded try a socket and breaker bar to move the tension pulley it will be quite stiff and there may be a small bolt to hold it in position if you are concerned with the bolts in the area just look at the bracket which the tension pulley is attached and you should be ok.Hope this helps good luck
