Want to install a remote starter in a 2008 Hyundai Elantra

How can I tell if my key has a security chip in it just by looking at it and if it comes with a factory alarm system?

I want to put a remote car starter on my 2008 Elantra too, but not sure which one to get. My key pad already has truck and door locks. I heard that some of them out there can use the existing key pad. Just click the unlock button a few times and it will tell it to start. Can anyone help me?

My 2008 Elantra GL sedan definitely DOES have chips in the keys. I found out the hard way. In order to make my car key fit into the case I use, I Dremeled all the plastic off the head of the key. Then the car wouldn't start. I ground it and ground it, with and without gas, etc., no joy. Fortunately my wife was in the car. I borrowed her key and the engine started instantly. We went back and forth between keys later in the evening and the answer was always the same: started fine with her key, total no-go with my "trimmed" one.

Now I'm going to fish the plastic chips out of the waste-basket, and see if any of them helps. . .

Can a remote start be installed in a car with NO KEYLESS ENTRY? no alarm system...just a key to open doors

Yes. After market remote start kits don't care about keyless entry or alarm systems. You will get a separate key fob to operate the remote starter.

I need a wiring diagram for the lights on a 2008 Hyundai Sonata V6. Installed a remote car starter in my wife's hyundai but couldn't find the light wires to hook into so when she starts it, no lights come...

Here is a link that should help you out. Scroll down a little and the is a diagram there. It is for a 99 but it still might help you out. It as a Hyunia forum site. There might be more there if you look around.
Hope that helps you out.

I have a 1998 hyundai elantra i had to push it in

hi from uk have read your symptoms and from what you have described your starting /failure to turn engine ? 1st have you checked the leads to the starter motor are secure ? especially the single thin wire that fits to the starter solenoid on a spade connector ensure it is fully clipped on ? if ok ? may i suggest you try this ?= connect a single jump lead to the earth connector post on battery then the other end of jump lead to a suitable earth connection on the engine then try starter ifthis works your problem is a faulty/corroded or loose earth connection from the battery to the chassis/andon to engine usually connected to a bolt on point where trans connects to engine ? for info i have come across this problem a few times on accents and found that for some reason the thin wire connected to starter solenoid had come loose due to not clipped fully on also the earth lead from batteries have not had clean/securety loose bolt hope this helps and wish you luck

2000 hyundai elantra alarm goes off where is the

There is NO kill switch on the 2000 Elantra... HOWEVER, there is a thing called the Key Fob (keyless remote entry system). There is, however, a system in place called the 'starter kill' circuit and it is activated when the burglar alarm goes off.... it's called the burglar alarm relay and it is activated to prevent the engine starter system from being used. There are three ways to get the engine started in such a circumstance... 1. use the key fob to 'disarm' the system... 2. put the key in the ignition and turn it to the 'RUN" position and wait until the alarm stops (horn stops beeping and the parking lights stop flashing), then the engine will start.... 3. pull the starter relay from the UnderHood junction box and bypass the starter circuit (key in ignition and in the 'RUN' position), jumper the starter solenoid circuit to energize the solenoid to start cranking the engine -- it should start then.

Interesting problem.. since not US spec. Is there a 'remote keyless (fob)' programmed for this vehicle? That's the only way to DE-arm the immobilizer (anti-theft) feature (based on US specs). Unless you have this key fob (keyless entry remote... which must also be programmed for this vehicle), the only other way is wait 5 minutes with the existing key in the ignition, then it should start (US specs). You will still need to have an 'ACTIVE' keyless remote programmed for this vehicle... otherwise, you'll continue to run into this problem.
