the serpentine belt is the belt on the front of your engine which drives all of your accesories such as alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and smog pump, it is driven by the crank shaft pully. It is made of rubber and will be about an inch and a quarter wide (also could be associated with term fan belt but to the ability to drive more than one or two components the correct term for this belt is the serpentine belt.

Looking down onto engine feed belt down to your left around crank pulley, route up putting back side of belt around w/pump then continue rest of belt around outside of remanning acc. leaving top idler last. put 3/8 drive ratchet into tensioner and rotate down slipping belt over idler

Timing belt replacement

Mrs Kelly, the 2004 chevy Tahoe came equipped with 3 different engines. All of which use a timing chain not a belt. The timing chain should last the life of the engine and does not require replacement as does a belt. Now if you are referring to the main fan belt, go to this web site and look for your model / W (engine) for your engines belt routing...

I have a 97 chevy dually and i need a diagram of how to change the serpetine belt..its a 7.4 litre

easy job all you need is a size 14 wrench and find the tensioner pully once youve done that take your wrench and put it on the nut on the front of the pully and pull upward once you see the belt to get loose enough to pull from the alternator pull it off work it in front of the fan until its out. make sure to draw a picture of the way it was routed so you can put it back on without a problem you will need to pull the tensioner while you are reinstalling the new belt so you will have enough slack in the belt to push it over the last pully. also take the old belt with you to the parts store so you can compare the size and part number from the old one. theres nothing more frustrating then to get the wrong part and figure it out when your trying to put it on

Belt removal instructions (and routing information) may be found on a sticker under the hood. I have posted a picture of the diagram below if these instructions have faded. The routing on the left is without the AC.
