Did you check for a trip switch in the trunk behind panel at the side, probably on driver side? Little plastic box with a plunger looking thing sticking up. Push plunger down, to make sure it's set, in case it tripped. They used to trip all the time, if you just banged that fender area with your hand.

Then you likely need to rep[lace the fuel pump, check the pressure at the test port on the top of the engine. If the pump is the problem you must drop the fuel tank to access it. Also change the filter if a new pump is needed.

Removing a 1987 ford tempo power steering pump

I believe you have 2 beltson this engine. One for the alternator, a short skinny one. Loosening the alternator bolts and pulling the alternator towards the front of the car, and then tightening the adjusting bolt.
The other belt runs the power steering, a/c compressor and water pump. I think it has an idler pulley with a jack screw adjusting screw. loosen the screw to releive belt tension. good luck

Fuel pump for a 1987 Tempo

If I remember correctly, I think those tempo's had a fuel shut-off trip switch in case of collision. Look in rear drivers side trunk, and pull driver side panel off. You should see a switch in there with a plunger on top that you push down to reset. Worth a try.
