Question about 2007 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz Slk Class

Open Question

2007 SLK 280 Won't start and won't go into gear intermittently

I bought my wife an 07 SLK with only 15,000 miles. The car has intermittent starting problems and it would not go into gear. We've had it to the dealership twice and now have to take it a third time. The first time it happened the car did not respond at all to the initiation of the key several times, but when it finally made contact and it turned over normally. It happened again and we took it to the dealership and they kept the car for two weeks waiting on a part for the transmission. We bought a new key and it happened again...same problem. The second time the dealership claims to have changed a sleeve in the shifter. Now the problem is getting worse. Anyone out there having a similar issue. I know there is a safety recall on the electrical system, but this was not one of the symptoms identified with that problem.

SOURCE: Intermittent starting problems

I have similar problem with wife's B200. Am told it's the neutral/park sendor in the gearbox, which prevents car starting unless in park or neutral. Dealer wants AUD$1200 to remove gearbox to replace faulty switch sensor. Will update this website on repair outcomes.

Why won't it start?

There should be a clutch safety switch that prevents you from cranking the engine with the clutch engaged.
Have you checked the switch for power ?

When you say it won't start, do you mean it cranks but won't fire, or it just won't crank? If it just won't crank, you could be having an issue with the starter relay. The often become intermittent before failure. Many owners do not know there is a starter relay because it was added as a recall item i order to protect the iginition switch from burnout. The starter relay is located in the very front of the engine compartment, just to the left of the battery, on the back side of the radiator crossmember.

My 98 golf won t start intermittently. I replaced

If you run a push button directly from the battery to the solenoid, the engine will crank when you push the button.

If the no start condition is because of the solenoid, this will not fix the issue.

If the no start condition is related to circuitry of the ignition system and/or fuel system, this may fix the issue, but may not, as well.
