Question about 1986 Ford F150 SuperCab

1 Answer

When the truck is running for 30 mins. it turns off

Then we have to wait about an hour or two before it turns on again. i went to a friend technician he told me to check the fuel pressure so he put on a fuel pressure tester and we drove around and it didn't turn off, we drove for about thirty minutes. but as soon as i took it off it started acting up.

Still sounds like a fuel pump! You could either have a wire rubbing and shorting out somewhere or it could be a weak fuel pump on it's way out.

Fuel pumps do funny things and you never know how there gonna go when they do.

I would first try running a set of wires from the battery straight to the fuel pump. Drive around see if that helps if it does it's your wiring. If not it's most likely your fuel pump.

Hope this helps!!!

In the morning the truck start fine and runs fine.

check the alternator... battery isn't getting sufficient power from it. if tthe problem continues there will be chance of battery dead. duo to the less power supply from alternator, if we increase the rpm though the vehicle wont go faster and engine gets off. so my suggestion is please check the altrnator replace it if required.

After highway driving for 2 hours and stopping for gas the car would initially start and then stall, it would run again until the car cooled for 30 minutes.

Sounds like your coolant level might be low. At highway speed you probably have enough coolant and with the air passing thru the radiator keeps the temp down, but at idle not so much. Or depending whether you have a belt drive or electric fan. Belt driven, could need a new belt.

Will it turn over? it not your starter is getting hot and not working. If yes most likely your coil is getting hot and breaking down.
