When should I change my cam belt

I have a legacy GX 2L 1995 with 230 000km I can't see a sticker saying that the cam belt has been changes(I don't really know where to look for it either, where should I look?)
I baught it in auction so don't really the history of it. It doesn't make any noise and all the levels look fine but I assume they would of fill all level before the sale.
I am planning to use the car to travel around New Zealand where the country side is very hilly. I plan o drive it for about 5 month and clocking around 5000Km, so should I change my cam belt and how much does it cost roughtly?
Thanks heaps

Usually it is around somewhere beteen 80000 and 100000 miles. If you check your owners manual it will tell you the exact mileage when it should be replaced.

Set camshaft timing

there should be marks on crank pully and cam belt pully. rotate motor until crank pully timing mark is on zero.the cam belt pully should be lined up with its own mark.number one piston should be at the top of its stroke (top dead centre TDC) and number one valves should be shut. if the cam belt mark is not alined with its own mark remove the belt realine the marks and refit the belt

Engine noise after timing belt change 2004 gx470

Is that the noise you mean? Rough and loud? Yeah, it makes you wonder if the timing is off by a tooth or two, doesn't it?
There may be a viewing/access plug on the camshaft sprocket cover to see the cam sprocket timing mark, when the crankshaft is turned to TDC, or 0 degrees. If no plug or access to see the cam sprocket, it might be wise to re-check the timing. Is there any difficulty in starting the engine? Or does it seem to run warmer than normal? Was the belt tension set correctly? Just a few things to consider, good luck.

Do Subaru Legacy 1991, have cam belts that need reg replacing

yes they have a timing belt and should be changed every 60k. now honestly everyone is different but ill tell ya what subaru are the easiest and simplist to work on almost nothing to them and they run forever.but that is my opinion.ah prices all pending where you live but i wouldn't charge more then $300-350 to change one.it is about 3 hours to change for sohc and 4 for dohc estimate about $80-100 for most shops now a days. The belt runs about $50-60 bucks but sometimes pending mileage i would change out the belt tensioner they run about 100 buck so be prepared. but youll prolly never have to change it again though.like i said they last for ever!!!

Change cam belt on 1995 legacy

If your going to do or get this done you need to replace the camshaft seals crankshaft seal and water pump plus the idlers and tensioner.
If its a quad cam you might just want to leave it to the pro's........
