Interior lights don't turn on

2004 Dodge Durango, the interior lights go on and off when pressed, but will not turn on when doors open. Also, the "wheel" on the dash to brighten/dim the dash should be able to turn on the interior lights as well, but does not. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Thanks very much for the input but the one other detail makes me think that that is an unlikely solution: when I try to turn on the interior lights with the "wheel" on the dash, they still don't go on (and that has nothing to do with the switches on the doors). Any other suggestions? Thanks!

same problem on my 05. Dimmer switch turned all the way up wont turn on the lights and they dont turn on when I open the door. Could this be a factory setting that can be changed? I know that many options can be enabled/disabled by the dealership mechanics (such as the side views moving down while reversing, or the driver's seat moving down and back when you turn off the engine)

When the door is closed i can manually turn on interior lights but i can't use the "wheel" to turn them on. Also, when I open my door the lights don't come on. The 15 fuse in the upper left controls the lights but they work fine when I push the buttons. I don't think it is fuse or latch unless I am missing something.

Check the fuses in the left kick panel, (by your left foot when in the drivers seat) the interior lighting fuse in there, also try putting fuses in the missing slots temporally. if you bought the car used some may have removed it because of a dome lamps staying on issue which is covered by a recall if you find that to be the case

Sounds like a bad switch on your latch, It is inside the door mounted to the latch, most I've seen you have to replace the complete latch. Merry Christmas

Sir, If you can read schematics, I can refer you to a site that has all the info you need to make the repair, I would be glad to provide this free if i could, but when faced with a problem like this the best thing you can have is the factory service manuals, with step by step troubleshooting. I use this site extensively myself, There is a fee of 20.00 for your first sub though, well worth it too.

2005 Durango interior lights do not come on when door is open.

Make sure the rheostat is not turned all the way down. It's the scroll type knob beside/beneath the headlight switch. If it's all the way down the lights will not illuminate, nor will you have any backlighting in the dash.

The interior lights wont turn on

inside the fuse panel by the drivers door in the dash, there are like 2 or 3 fuses you will see that have like a yellow plastic fuse puller built into them (as least thats how it appears) anyway one of those fuses are for the interior lights!! at least thats how it was in my 2003 durango when the interior lights wouldn't come on!!!
