Question about 1998 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1995 Jeep C. 4.0l 6cyl stalling & dies. Random. Getting worse.

180k miles, new fuel pump. Used to feel occasional BUMP. Thought it was trany. Seems now to be more electronic. Codes 12 & 11 scanned. Would the cam pos sensor be more likely than the crank sensor? I need this daily driver to keep running. It's getting worse! Dies more frequently lately. Sometimes if I'm on the gas when it starts happening I can get it to keep going. Other times I have to shut off engine and restart. PLEASE HELP!!!! Tough times, can't afford a new ride right now.

Before you encounter this problem do you have problem starting the Jeep?


Crank angle sensor and Idle air control valve are the most common parts failure for 150,000+ miles vehicle.


I would clean the spring,plunger and the interior pathway of the IAC. The IAC is the 4 wire electronic motor that adjust the idle.


Since you has 180K miles,the CAS should be replace.


The .Automatic Shutdown relay (ASD) (Relay #4/inside the fuse box) can be damage also.


Check out these three trouble spots and post a comment.

When you run out of fuel you
sometimes ruin the fuel pump

I would have thought you would have
said if you checked fuel pressure at least

Can't have a clogged fuel filter as you change that
every few years

If it has high milage you could change the spark plugs. It could also be a faulty fuel pump

When i hit a bump my 95 grand cherokee shudders but only when i'm only pressing the gas


your fuel pump is in the gas tank in the rear of the truck. It sounds like it could be a loose connection on the fuel pump sending unit. That's ware I would start looking at first. If that's not it you need to have pressure test done on the fuel pump. If you are having trouble starting the truck every now and then, this a good sign your fuel pump is starting to go out. First of all there is a vacume leak, second how is the air filter?, tell the husband to change the MAF mass air flow sensor and I would also change the TEMP tempreature sensor.

Sounds like you may need a new CAT. If a chunk of the honey comb has broken off and is blocking the exhaust pipe, that would cause your symptom.
