No brake pedal when the car is running

On my 94 escort i have brakes without the motor running, but when I start the motor i lose all the brake pressure and the pedal goes right to the floor. I don't have any leaks, is it the master cylinder or the booster..

Cant get out of park gear

Step on your brakes and see if the brake lights work. If they do not, then the problem is a switch under the dash and at the top of the brake pedal lever.

It often gets hit by your feet and either gets knocked out of position or broken. Its purpose is to prevent you from getting into gear without having your foot on the brake pedal. When you lose the signal you have the problems you are encountering.

Did complete brake job on 1997 Ford Escort wagon no abs rear shoes, drums, lines, wheel cylinders, even changed the block at the rear were the lines go in & out of. Front lines hoses pads, caliplers...

is brake pedal hard to push down without engine running ,if so proceed to step two and thats to start engine and then push on brake and if pedal softer to push then the servo is working ,now if excessive pedal travel with engine running then remove the rear drums ,make sure the outside lip is cleaned out and then adjust the brake shoes manually till they rub when you turn the drum ,this will cure it but remember that it has to bed in of course new pads brake disks ,new shoes and drums it has to bed in so give it a chance .

Car will not come out of park once the car is started

Check the switch under the dash that the brake pedal pushes on. This allows the trans out of park when you step on the brake.

Spongy brake pedal on 2003 Frod escort zx2.

loosen of the hand-brake adjustment and press the brake pedal a few times to self adjust the rear brakes.
Re-tighten the handbrake adj last.
Front brake sounds like a seized caliper,If possible remove caliper and clean and lubricate the piston.
This may work but replacement caliper may be the only other solution.Make sure the caliper slides are also clean and lubricated and the brake pads are in good order.(TRY THIS FIRST)
Also new brake shoes can make the pedal feel spongy for a couple of hundred miles until they have been run in.

I have a 94 chevy silverado 2500 and the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, even after i filled the brake fluid reservoir.

You likely have one of these conditions:

- hole in break line or loose connection

- leaking wheel cylinder / caliper

- leaking master cylinder

It needs service immediately!!

P.S. The cylinders can be "leaking by" without losing fluid -- so don't necessarily expect fluid to be lost.

1998 ford escort wagon brake lights out. bulbs and fuses changed.

Sounds like your brake light switch has gone bad. It is located on your brake pedal and is easy to change and relatively inexpensive. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

94 ford explorer brakes

HI, i recommend inspecting the brake peddle switch located near the brake pedal foot lever under the dash. this switch may be malfunctioning or the wires that connect to the switch housing may be lose as well.

If the switch checks out ok, i would then move to the entire wire inspection. Inspect the wires that run to the brake lights to see if they are lose or torn or corroded. if you notice any lose or corroded contact clips, re[place the entire wiring that connects the brake to the electrical current and switch.

Most of the time its bad wires but, dont forget to check the switch that is linked to the brake peddle. this is a known problem spot also. these switches can go bad over time...
