Turn vehicle on, with foot on brake put vehicle in NEUTRAL. Still holding brakes move 4x4 switch to 4 wheel drive, it should engage. The ECT snow is just s feather that make the transmission take off in 2nd gear so its not a fast take off and you wouldn't skid. Good Luck

ON THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE, WHEN THE ROADS ARE COVERED IN SNOW AND ICY, SHOULD THE TRACTION BUTTON BE PUSHED IN SO THAT THE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH "TRACTION". THIS BUTTON IS ALWAYS OFF, WHEN SHOULD IT...

This button turns the All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) function on and off. When the "TRACTION" light is on, the AWD function is on -- AWD should be on in snow / ice.

2006 Highlander V-6 AWD,(not Limited Ed). I Live in colorado, drive about 30k /yr, need tires that will handle the snow/ice and hopefully last for 45k, suggestions?

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

In a word, finding tires that will handle snow and ice, and last for 45,000 miles is a difficult task.

Tires that perform better in the snow are traditionally 'softer' tires, and are not going to last 45,000 miles, due to the inherently softer tread composition..

We here recommend Bridgestone "Blizzak" winter tires. We have found their performance on snow to be simply tremendous. I would get come Blizzaks installed if I were you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa today.

2005 Highlander: I don't think four wheel drive is working. How can I determine? Is there a switch for four wheel drive, as someone suggested?

Are you sure your vehicle is a 4 wheel drive version? Double check your model information to make sure. If it is, technically, it is all wheel drive - meaning the other wheels engage automatically when the vehicle detects that they are needed. I have an 05 Highlander AWD, too. Good choice. I love mine! Good luck.

How put 4 whels drive

If your Highlander is AWD - that means it automatically detects when you need extra traction - and the other wheels engage automatically. You can't turn it on or off manually. If it's not working, you either have the 2wd model - or there is a problem, and you should take it to your favorite shop. Good luck!

Just got H 2 2005 4 buttons 4 the 4 wheel drive

Use 2 wheels, the other 4wd low ,for climbing at slow speeds: 4wd high, for driving on low traction roads, like mud or snow,at medium speeds: 4wd auto full time all wheel drive, for highway speeds on slippery surfaces, like rain or light snow.

Where is the four wheel drive swtch located in a 2005 toyota highlander and how do you turn it on.

The transmission is automated along with the 4 wheel drive the only way to force 4 wheel drive is to push the switch thats located next to the shifter that says ECT Snow.

Snow button on my 2008 Highlander

The "snow" button sets the transmission to start off in second gear, and makes the accelerator less sensitive thus reducing the tendency to slip and slide. It also has the effect of reducing the power and responsiveness of the car. Try driving with the snow button "off" in "normal" snowy conditions and see how you go. Use "snow" for exceptionally icy conditions.

The snow button

when its snowing and its a traction safety feature that when engaged will slow down the speed of the wheel that slips to the speed of the other wheels making it easier to regain traction. this is not always useful so they added an option to turn it on and off
