I have a 1997 honda accord (special edition) and the ignition switch want turn all the way to start position. I can turn the steering wheel so that's not locked and I can change my gears from park to drive by inserting the key in the key hole for the gear shift. Should I get the whole ignition switch replaced or do u think its just the electrical part of the ignition. Please help!

TRY TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE TURNING KEY, especially if your wheels are turned to either side and is not straight. Turn to the same side that they wheels are turned to if they are not straight. If that doesn't work that ignition lock may be at fault and you will need to replace. Good Luck

Where is the fuse for the gear shifter on a 1997 Honda Accord Station Wagon EX

First, what is exactly happening? as there is no fuse for Gear shifter.

Is the car not going out of park? If so, then check the Brake switch. Brake has to be depressed which operates the brake switch sending signal to the gear shifter to unlock so it can be shifted. If Brake switch is okay then only a mechanical obstruction is preventing the shifter operation. For this you will have to take of the cover on the gear shifter to see what is fouling.

Hi,

I think that the lock cylinder (switch body) may have been worn, from age and the AirBag deployment possibly sent it over the edge. Below is an illustration of the Ignition Lock Switch Assembly, there is also a cable which runs into the switch that will not allow the key to turn back fully unless the transmission is in park (automatic trans)...it may be that portion of the switch which is failing as well. You need to remove the switch assembly for inspection, but you may be better off just replacing it.

2003 honda accord - starter does not make a sound when you turn the key. I have installed new battery and replaced the positive cable end. The head lights and all accessories work fine.

If the head lights and accessories work, your main fuse is good. Make sure your gear selector is all the way in the park park position. The gear indicator light should be illuminated. if the light doesn't illuminate in Park, but illuminates in the other gear positions the shift cable is out of adjustment. adjust the cable and recheck.
The next step would be to test the starter. Do this by first turning the ignition switch off. To be safe take the key out of the ignition. Unplug the small wire at the starter solenoid and take a jumper wire connected to the starter solenoid and touch it to the positive side of the battery (The battery should be connected to the vehicle).
-If the starter still doesn't operate. The starter is faulty and should be replaced.
-If the starter operates (spins), you have a starter circuit wiring issue. You'll have to do a series of pinpoint test to determine the fault. It could be a faulty ignition switch, starter cut relay, clutch pedal switch for manual trans. or a gear selector switch for an auto trans. or an open in the wiring harness to the starter. -hope this helps.

There is a recall on 1998-2002 Accords regarding defective ignition key mechanicals. Try jiggling the transmission shifter on park, while trying to extract the key, to make sure the shifter sensor (park) is allowing the key to be retrieved. For what i have read, the recall failure works the other way, it allows the key to be taken out on any gear, engine on or off !!.

I unintentionally unlocked my honda accord 1998 LX v6 manually. The security alarms sounded and after 2 minutes stopped. The car is starting but the gear does not ship from park position. Any help?

You should try locking it manually if that works cool if not there is small gap like for the key where the shifter is stick your key in there make sure its not the one for ignition you might have to turn it on and then insert the key try that.

Car "locked" in Park. Cannot get gear to shift. Happened all of a sudden whe

Check the oil level in the gearbox, and also the slave cylinder thats the most likely cause. if not then it will be the torque converter shot.

GEAR SHIFT

The most likely problem is the locking mecanism in your shif selector.
There is a selenoid that prevent the car from get it out of park unless you push the brake pedal while the car is running or the ignition switch is on.
The problem could be in the brake switch itself under the dash or the selenoid in the shifter console.
