1998 AudiA4 Avant, Ignition will not turn far enough to engage starter motor. Service key and manual will not turn it either

It sounds like your ignition switch is bad, or has some debris stuck insid it. Try cleaning the key hole out thoroughly, if it's clear you may need to replace the switch (and all your keys)

I replaced the ignition switch module on my 2003 honda civic and now the immobilization system will not let the car start it will crank but thats all I tried turning the key on to the full on position and...

the IMMO light tells you , IMMO is failing,
this is covered in the FSM 100%

rule one , never buy a car with IMMO, baring that, buy the FSM.
this is a complex system, and is unique to this honda.
the book covers this.
see here, for your free book,
http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto/Manuals/Civic/

i run DIY immo on all my cars and bikes.
costs $1 (and no leash to honda)
honda's do have idle learn modes, up the ying/yang.
1100 pages
your answers are on page 22-165 (FSM)
rule 1, one fob, 1 key on chain or fail.
step 2, does key inserted and on,show key flashing
yes, remove pin 7p and go to step 9
see, it dont work like you think
no 2 cars have the same system. its 2003 honda. and is unique.
7p is in the IGN switch.
etc,etc
and step 14, oops a bad e-parking brake switch , see lamp for same.

Ryes i have a 1985 ford ranger pick up and the problem is the key switch when I turn the key to the off position the truck keeps running

This is either a bad solenoid, or the ignition switch itself is bad.
Locate the solenoid which on fords is usually on the fender in the engine compartment on the driver side. It looks a bit like a diamond and has 4 bolts, one going to the battery, one to the ignition, starter, and I believe the coil. Locate the one coming from the ignition switch (where key goes) and see if it is sending power with the key off. If it is the ignition is bad and needs to be replaced. If it is not, check the wire going from the solenoid to the coil. If it has power the solenoid is bad, just make sure you check the other wire 1st cause if the ignition is bad the solenoid will have power going to the coil when off.
Hope thats not confusing.

Remove/replace starter sloenoid

your Ignition Switch is bad here is how to replace it
The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.
f32-17gif.gif The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch:
  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

Tach, speedometer, and odometer do not work. tranny dont down shift.

the ignition switch needs to be replaced, not the key switch but the actual switch and harnes9comes together.when this is deftive you have the abive symtoms but only 3rd and reverse will work.try tapping the switch,if the tach ect. starts working so wil the tranny, repace the switch.
