Question about 2007 Mazda 3

1 Answer

My brother's mazda 6 won't shift gears. Its a 2003 Mazda 6i sedan. He took it to a repair place and they said he needs to replace the lower shifter cable. Does the transmission need to be dropped in order to do this?

No the dash has to be completely removed to access the top of the transmission to replace the crappy cable mazda designed that breaks easily. Its a metal cable until it reaches the tranny then its plastic

The best way to replace the headlght bulb

In my opinion, the BEST way is to get somebody else to do it for free!...LOL

However, that is not very likely to happen in this millenium, so I have provided the pictures below.

Also please note that there is a Mazda 6i and a Mazda 6s But there is no Mazda MX6 in 2005. There is, however, a Mazda MX5...so assuming this is what you meant, the pictures are for the MX5.

If you meant Masda 6i or Mazda 6s, these pictures are not even close because the 6-series requires removal of the front bumper to remove the head lights.

How do I install an axel assembly for a 2003 Mazda 6

You first need to pull off the wheel, then brake caliper along with rotor as well, then take out the strut (shock) "very time consuming by the way if your doing it for the first time because all the bolts and nuts are really tight". then you are gonna take out the knuckle, do that by disconnecting the lower and upper control arms , once all that is out the old axel will slide right out. I did this a few weeks ago on my 04 Mazda 6i, and both sides took 4hrs, 2hrs per side. Now putting in the new axel make sure you slide it in the transmission carefully there's a small transmission seal that sits in the hole and if you disturb that you have to replace that too! I learned that the hard way. Once its in put all the parts back and make sure its all tight. then make sure you have the right amount of trans fluid and you should be good. If you take it to a mechaninc they will charge $850.00 for labor alone.

I own a 2003 Mazda MPV. I have owed the van for 2 years when first purchased after a few months I started to notice a faint noise from the back of the car when I when shift from 1-2 gear. Well I brought it...

Most transmission shifter ( where you shift) has a linkage control to shift gears in the transmission. Those joints from the linkage have bushings made of rubber. Once these rubbers were worn down and torn, the noise from metal friction from linkage can give you that intermittent noise. When the gap from the linkage joint enlarges in lieu of the bushing space, it causing the engagement of shifting is off from original position that was why you are experiencing "binding in other gears"
Have a different shop to check out these linkage control bushings and replace them. The bushings are cheap and it probably takes about 2 hours the most to replace them. This will save you a lot of money on spending on unnecessary repair. Good Luck.

Transmission problem but hope not

check your trans fluid level, it may be low. the fluid should be replaced, but hopefully your trans wont need to be replaced

All who are reading, transmissions aren't cheap, but fluid is so please change the fluid more often than the scheduled maintenance.

i drain and fill my wife's Honda Accord once/year..she has 72k mi with no probs, but i often read about Accords with the same yr and same v6 engine with trans problems!

also check all your fluids especially oil and trans fluid!
