Thermostat issues on 99 eclipse non turbo

I googled for help on 99 eclipse non turbo. We've changed the thermostat three times, the first was probably unneccessary. The second thermostat we got from Schuck's and was getting stuck, the third we just bought two days ago at a Napa. The first we got from an all foreign car parts here that is local. There is only a thin paper seal when we put the thermostat on. Now to get to the problem. After about two, maybe three days, the car begins to over heat on idle and there is nothing but cold air coming through. The anti freeze reserve tank is completely empty. We can't tell where the leak, if there is one is coming from. There is no sign of burning antifreeze, you know that sweet sick smell it gives off. We just replaced a the valve cover gasket that was causing oil to leak and the cams to make a horrible noise. We've ran the car for some time, lifted to check for leaks and haven't seen anything.

Well the antifreeze has to go somewhere so its either going out onto the ground via hose or gasket, or it can get into you oil system via gasket or out the tailpipe via gasket. Since you said you cant smell it I would look for a puddle on the ground or in the oil. But since you said its knocking i would have to say head gasket is leaking antifreeze into the oil.... Pull out your engine oil dipstick and see if its white/foamy, if it is its the headgasket/head issue.

How do you change freeze plug on rear side of engine of 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0 non turbo

Never have changed or seen a rear freeze plug go bad. I would keep checking. You have to remove the transmission to replace one of those. Use a mirror and look for water trails.

Its probably got an electric igniter rather than a coil, either way it sounds like your not getting for in your piston cylinder.

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gs non turbo that has a water outlet that has been pitted and needs replacing. I cannot find the outlet for the non-turbo. Any suggestions?

Your problem is most likely because you are describing your vehicle as a "Gs". The only similar listings in the catalog are for a "GSX". (The parts counter person probably has no clue that there is a difference) The GSX is only built in a turbo version, therefore you will not find a water outlet for the non-turbo simply does not exist.

Now, if you simply describe it as an Eclipse, there are water outlets listed for the turbo 2.0L, the non-turbo 2.0L and the non-turbo 2.4L engines. You did not bother to mention engine size, so I will list the part numbers for BOTH of the non-turbo engines.

For the 2.4L engine: Compressor Works Part Number 815517

For the 2.0L engine: Compressor Works Part Number 815576

Both are available from AutoZone
