Question about 1988 GMC C1500

'88 GMC 1500 Idles fine, but dies when accelerator is pushed

I've got a 1988 GMC 1500. It idles fine but when I push on the accelerator it sputters a bit and dies. I've already changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. I took off the distributor cap and cleaned the contacts and the rotor. I disconnected the fuel line from the carb and had a good stream of fuel (I don't have a test kit to check the actual pressure). I checked the readings across both injectors. They each read 1.6 ohms, which is a bit high (Haynes says they should be between 1.16 - 1.36 ohms), but since they both read the exact same I hoped they might be alright. I'd really appreciate any good ideas before I have to send it to a shop.

I am having the same problem. However, the engine will run when I push the accelerator but only if I disconnect and remove the PCV connection to the carborator. The engine idles really high. It is a new PCV valve but there is some residue on both stems (valave and the carborator intake) looks like oil. Any solutions?

I have a 1988 GMC 1500 with a 305 the problem is that it wont idle I found that if I pull the vacum line off the MAP sensor it is fine for 30 seconds then dies I got a new map sensor and nothing chan

Change the PCP valve and run the heater. This should take care of it. You only have to run the heater one time as this is controlled by the vacuum system. This will cause your motor to run proper.

Jeep starts and idles perfect no acceleration,

Sounds like the catalytic converter or muffler are clogged. There isn't much exhaust at idle, but when you accelerate your exhaust volume increases, thus if your catalytic converter or muffler are clogged the restrict the exhaust escaping out thus causing an excess of back pressure which won't allow the engine to breathe normally.

REplace the fuel filter, then check for vaccum leakes around the intake. My guess is the carb it close to falling off! LOL Frankster016
