Question about 2005 Peugeot 405

1 Answer

Starting problem I have a Peugeot Partner-Diesel.Model 2005.Commercial Van Type. The problem is that it never starts.I checked the glow plugs. All four plugs are glowing.I checked by removin each one with the battery connected to one end.All are fine. I took the van to the agent from where I purchased, they said it is the proble for the Diesel Pump and it would cost too much.In between the van was taken to many workshops & mechanics.None were able to repair this problem. Once, the Van starts, it goes on without any hassles !. If cold & the temperature shows fully low in the meter panel (dashboard) the problem starts. Secondly, to restart the van in the morning or any time, I have to use the manual black color pump near to the left side of the diesel filter.I will have to pump it, until the fuel reaches its destination all through.I could know this as and when this black manual pump becomes tight to pump anymore. After this, if I start then it continues. If I do not pump manually then, the van would just start and just for few seconds and goes off.So could I gain your kind advice.I have been moving around with this problem for nearly two months and fed up.Even the mechanics say never take up diesel vehicle.Ist it so true ? I kindly await with patience for the next action.I hope you would help me to solve this problem !Thanks much. Josef

If its a 2005 it will be common rail, so you have to be carefull when dealing with this engine. The common rail has extremely high pressures which can harm you, also the fuel injectors are capacitor discharged and are high voltage. Now thats aside, look at the high pressure pump at the front of engine. If the code on it ends in 018 then its fed by an electrical fuel pump. These fuel pumps can fail. if it has another number then the HPP draws its own fuel. The symptoms are air ingress into the fuel lines, causing the fuel to run back to the tank. Its probably worse in cold weather due to the contraction of the fuel pipes in the cold. Check all fast fit connections for security. A trick is to put grease on the connections, it wont last long but might give you an idea where the leak is.

What grade of oil do I need for a 2005 peugeot partner diesel van

at this age i would reccomend using semi synthetic 10/40 or even 20/50 as the mileage gets higher it starts to use oil.so using a thicker oil when cold helps.

Peugeot partner wopnt start replaced glow plug

what voltage u getting ?. did it just stop and then not restart. if its getting fuel and glow plugs are working the next two items id look at is the cam shaft and crank shaft position sencors. also make sure ur battery is in good condition, so starter motor is turning fast enough to build up the correct pressure on the rail.

My Peugot Partner Diesel van only gets 2000rpm max

First - I am amazed at the runaround they have given you over this - and all the work they have charged you for.
This seems to be stuck in "limp mode" - which is an electronic basic running mode when it doesn't get all the info from the sensors (of which there are too many on peugeots !)

The most likely to start with is any damage to the exhaust sections - or any catylist fitted. Diesels use them to reduce particulates, and can become blocked - causing backpressure and all sorts of running problems.

The cheapest solution to you is to take it to an exhaust specialist - and ask them to check it.
A bad knock can shatter a ceramic catylist - virtually blocking the entire system.

I have a peugeot - but after numerous electronic faults - will never buy another.

HI,AS IT IS HARD TO START THESE EXTRA COLD MORNINGS WE ARE GETTING,TRY A SET OF GLOW PLUGS, YOU CAN SEE THEM ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD,WITH A WIRE JOINING THEM UP,YOU WILL NEED A 8mm SCOKET , FOR THE WIRE, AND A DEEP 12mm ONE FOR THE PLUGS,UNSCREW TO THE LEFT,AND PUT A BIT OF GREASE ON THE THREAD OF THE NEW ONES AS THEY CROSS TREAD EASY,ABOUT 17POUNDS FOR A SET,THANKS.
