Rear windscreen washes when stalk pulled forward?

It should be that when you pull the stalk towards you the front wiper/headlight wiper operate, away from you for the rear wiper. It hasn't just rewired itself, and miswiring seems quite unlikely.

Has it been dismantled? Has any other electrical work been done near relays or fusebox?
Some history would be useful. I'm also wondering whether it could also be changed by programming the computer? If you don't have any history I would join a volvo forum and seek further advice before you start dismantling the stalk wiring.
not sure where you are in the world so here are a couple

None of my wipers work. We were driving in the rain, and both the from and back wipers just quit. I did not check the fuses because they are 2 seperate fuses.

Both the front and rear wipers have a couple things in common. They are both powered by the 'Wiper System Relay". This relay supplies the power to both the front and rear wiper fuses. I would check for power at both of the fuses. If there is no power, then there is a problem with the relay or the relay circuits. The relay and both of these fuses are located in the underhood fuse/relay box. Please note that there is a "Wiper System Relay" as well as "Front Wiper Relay" and "Rear Wiper Relay" Why??? I don't know...some engineer at Saturn worked out his job-security with this one, I guess...

Any way, the Wiper System Relay feeds both of the fuses which, in turn, feed the two other relays.
The primary side of this relay is controlled by the Ignition 2 circuit from the ignition switch, so the relay is energized any time the ignition switch is on. (sounds like a good way to overheat and burn up a relay to me...but who am I??? I am not an engineer, I just get paid to deal with their stupidity)

The secondary side of this relay gets its power directly from the battery...no fuses in between, just a fusiblelink. This link is not the problem because there would be a whole bunch of other stuff not working - including your engine computer.

If I were to take a guess, it would be the relay.

Let me know if this helps you. Take a moment to rate my solution this will let me, as well as other know.

During a recent snowstorm, the weight of the snow was apparently too much for the rear wiper. It stopped mid-stream and is stuck. Simultaneously, the intermittent function of the front wipers also quit. ...

Check fuse no. 11 (10A) in the driver's under dash fuse/relay box. I suspect it is blown. It provides power for the rear wiper, both washers, and the intermittent wiper function for front and rear. It probably blew when your rear wiper got stuck.

Rear wiper does not work at all. front wipers work fine. rear washer works

1. check the fuse to the rear wiper motor
2. check for power to rear wiper motor at the motor (power wire going in to the wiper motor with rear wiper switch on)
If you have good fuses & have power going in to the rear wiper motor...
3. Pull old rear wiper motor and install a new rear wiper motor.
Thank you please drive thru......

I have a1992 ford explorer the front and rear wipers quit workin

check for power at the wiper motor. If power at the wiper motor but no wiper action then replace the motor. if no power at the motor then use a jumper wire and put power to the motor. Does motor run? if so check for open circuit in the wire someplace.
