I got my 89 ford f-150, 5.0 for free, it hadn't been run for about 2 years, i have only been driving it for 6 months. i put on a water pump thermostat, front and rear main seal, oil sending unit and new gauge, oil pan gasket and now it only runs for about 30 mins befor it shuts off. once it cools down below the temp gauge it will start and run for another 30 mins. It also appears the heads are leaking antifreeze down the side of the block. will new head gaskets be all i need to replace for these symptoms? Or do I have multiple problems?
i had to replacce many coolant components on mine and it appears the head gaskets are also gone or the head is warpped. the engine only runs for about 30 mins, then i have to wait for it to cool all the way back down and it is good untill it warms up, it has never overheated since i have owned it. I did replace the thermostat with a 210 degree instead of the lower temp.
