1999 suburban starter replaced battery good turns over eratic
I have a 1999 chevy suburban with a 5.7 L I replaced the starter and know the battery is good however the engine turns over very slow and at points pauses which kills the dash lights. As it turns over the speed is erratic and the pauses are only a few seconds apart. The car will not fire.

If your saying the starter motor won't crank? Make sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections are all good. Then check the wiring circuits at the starter for voltage and ground. When testing at the starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, also check fuel injector pulse. Can you check applicable trouble codes? How long since a tune-up?
The starter is next to the side of the lower engine block where the engine and trans meet(I believe on the passenger side on GM V8s)You should get 12 volts on the small(purple?) wire of the solenoid when the key is turned to "start".If you don't get 12 volts when the key is turned,it could be the switch on the shifter(usually referred to as the PRNDL switch)IF you get 12 volts at the solenoid when you turn the key, replace the starter(my Chevy work truck has gone through 6 starters(ONE A YEAR)since I've had it!)
CHECK BATTERY CABLES FOR TIGHTNESS AND MAKE SURE BATTERY POST ARE CLEAN FREE FROM CORROSSION CHECK BATTERY VOLTS. SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS.IF NOT. HAVE BATTERY TESTED.BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TURN OFF RADIO FIRST SO YOU WONT LOCK OUT RADIO.IF ALL IS GOOD STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER FAULTY OR BATTERY GROUND CABLE COULD BE BAD.
