Question about 2005 Dodge Caravan

Engine seems to be missing

When idling..going up hills...sometimes on straight stetches...it seems to act like it's not getting gas for a split second or like the engine is missing...the private dealership said it might be the spark plugs...it's got 85,000 on it...does this seem right??

2005 Dodge Caravan idle issue random mis-fires. Progressively getting worse. Auto-zone code-reader indicates could be secondary coil issue.

It sounds right, it is called a light load miss. it occurs mostly at 45-50 mph on slight incline and it feels like a bucking or hesitation. It commonly ocurs when there is carbon tracking on a spark plug porcelin (sp) . note . if the porcelin has carbon tracking so does the plug wire boot. the spark will travel through the carbon track in teh boot after plug replacement causing premature failure of the plug. it is a good idea to replace plugs and wires if this is the cause of your miss.

When going up hills I lose momentum I changed the plugs, wires, and 02 sensor and it goes up to 3 rpms why isn't it fixed?

First check for any codes, then test vacuum with a good vac guage. When reving engine the vacuum should drop and then climb back up. Check for vacume leaks by spraying carb cleaner at any vacume hoses and intake areas but not at air filter.

then also check compression as well as look at spark plugs to see that they are all tan and no differences in any one. Go to YouTube and search for how to test engine with a vacuum gauge.

Most any problem with an engine can be diagnosed with a vacuums gauge but do use a second test method as you have learned replacing parts hoping to fix a problem is costly.

Do you have a fuel pump? If its bad or weak, you aren't getting enough gas to your engine. Has anyone thought of the filter in your gas tank?
