Question about 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300
How do I remove the old alernator in my 88 mercedes e class
There are 2 types of Alt for your car .The lower Amp has a Plug in the high Amp has a screw in for electrical connection.
There are 2 bolts to hold the Alt in the engine. Need to locate them first and losen them up.
Losening the tension is a bit tricky. There is 1 large bolt I don't remember size maybe 17mm between the compressor and the power steering pump.
Need to loose it first before attemping the top bold near the Power steering reservoir, other wise you will strip the thread and this is a lot of work to replace.
After you done all of that in order, you can completely take off the 2 bolt at the Alt. Pull the top bolt first so the ALt can be Pivoted to the bottom one, then one hand to hold the Alt while the other to pull off the bottom bolt.
Put in the new Alt in reverve order.

Disconnect batt. Loosen belt tennsioner. Keep belt in place or mk note of belt routing. Remove bolt.Fan can stay on.
