Oil change is a verry simple task but there some tings you needed to know . the temperature of the state were you are have some to do with the oil grade you need. if cold and very cold temps you need low viscosity oil like sae 30 10 w for extreme heat or higth temps you need sae 40 or 50 w20. is it cold or hot in california? ......... you decide....... nicolas

How much oil should my 2007 SRX use between oil changes it only has 23,000 miles on it now?????????????????????

Oil consumed between oil changes (assuming 2,500 miles) should be between 0 and 1 quart, for a healthy engine.
More oil consumption is annoying, but not viewed as an issue by manufacturers, in fact most would not do anything until you exceeded a quart in 600 miles (I would be livid!!!), but that is how they think of it.

All that being so, the cost of repair far outweighs the cost of the oil, so to rebuild for oil consumption is often not cost effective. Personally, I would go mental at more that a quart between oil changes.

Just changed oil on 2008 chev 2500HD Duramax and it is already black could this be a problem? i have noticed a clicking sound not constant but random coming from somewhere on the block

You need to run an engine cleaner through your engine. Drain about 1 quart out and pour in a bottle of cleaner. Let engine run for about 5 minutes and drain oil and change oil filter. You may want to consider doing this with the next 2-3 oil changes to remove all the build-up in the engine. You will tell a big difference. Also, some do this as I am one of them. During the winter months I use a thicker oil and during the summer the recommended oil weight. Just to assure you it's fine, read the owners manual and it should be in there about using a heavier weight. Good Luck

Uses about a quart of oil between oil changes

all vehicles use some oil between changes
oil is splashed up the side of the piston bore.the pistons have compression and oil rings.the oil rings are to scrape the oil back down as the piston moves down,if this wasnt done you would burn oil every stroke and loose a lot more
1 quart between changes is no big deal

Looses oil between changes

How much oil ?? It is not out of line to add a quart between ...say 3000 mile oil changes . Check the engine with a flashlight and quite often you can see the source of the leak. Crawl under the vehicle und look at motor if possible. Oil is still cheap and often it's cheaper to add a quart if the leak is minor. The big oil related costs are if you are trailing blue smoke (rings and valves) or if your radiator water is milkie white with possible oil sheen on it.(head gasket). Everything else is usually fairly minor. Quite often it only means tightening gasket bolts as many vehicles still use cork type gaskets that lose their elasticity over time.

Just bought a 2003 2500hd with 48000 miles. how often are the fron wheel bearings serviced and can or should synthetic oil be used in this engine ( 8.1 ).

I wouldn't recommend using synthetic oil in an 8.1 because they are known to use 1 to 2 quarts between oil changes and its kinda of a waste of expensive oil.. I always run 10w 30w in these engines. front wheel bearings.. they are non serviceable or packable they are a sealed hub unit. Inspection is raising the vehicle to where the front wheels are off the ground and shake them top to bottom when you feel play, they are due to be replaced they usually last 100k miles or less..

What kind of oil does a 1984 MB 300D take?

deisels have high compression so I never put synthetic oils in them because they are very thin. I use a thick regular oil. It would depend on the weather where you live. I live in california and use valvoline 20 50. On an earlier vehicle the oils where not as complicated so just use a good regular non syn. oil and it will be fine with the seals, gaskets and bearings in your engine
