BROKEN DRIVER HEADLIGHT ON 2002 CAMRY

Can I replace the headlight assembly myself? How do I go about it?

  • Anonymous Jan 01, 2009

When I posted on Fixya-things began to happen for me. You were right "mad mazda ma" (meant to give you four diamonds).

My bumper is damaged, and also the headlight support bracket. Someone told me where to get discounted parts-and I did. My husband recognized the need and obtained a new support bracket and then performed the headlight installation. I appreciated him doing that. He has a 69 GTO, and does work on his commuting cars, so he had the tools to do the repair at home.

You can but you may have to remove the fount bumper to do so,very hard to do on the ground at home best bet is to get a head light and to take it to a garage that charges less then the dealers.

you may be able to get a non genuine head light for around half the price if you shop around

Daytime Running Lights Inoperative 2002 Toyota Camry

[Information] For a 2002 Toyota Camry, the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) operate utilizing the High Beams (inner Lamps closer to the center of the vehicle front) at a reduced power.

[The troubleshooting process:] Review the Owner's Manual and ensure the test configuration matches the following criteria:
1. According to the 2002 Toyota Camry Owner's Manual (Check your Owners Manual):
"The DRL system will make your headlights come on at a reduced brightness when:
The light switch s in the "DRL" position.
The ignition is on with the engine running.
The headlight switch is off.
The parking brake is released."

2. Set the Test Conditions according to Step 1 above.

3. Check the headlight bulbs to ensure they are not burned out. If one burns out, there is a fair chance that the other would have burned out at the same time. Replace as necessary. In this case, if the high beams operate, the DRLs should also operate.
4. Test the system, ensuring the step 1 conditions are set. (Engine running, Multi-function Switch on Turn Signals in "DRL" position, headlight switch off (repeating what the manual says -- it should be obvious that in the "DRL" position, the headlight switch should be off / do not have the switch positioned to "High Beam"), and the Parking Brake "off").
5. If DRL lights do not work, check the engine compartment Fuse and Relay Box. there is a 5 Amp DRL fuse -- replace it with the spare. Test (step 4).
6. If it does not work, swap around or replace relays -- there are three (3). Any one of them could be bad (stuck or burned out). Test (step 4).
7. Other less likely possible issues could be that the Multi-function Switch is broken or a connection / wire is broken. [Beyond the scope of this process.]

My problem was that the test configuration did not have the engine running and parking brake off - Step 1. Problem solved with much thought, repetitive tests on the vehicle and going back to the basics -- what does the Owner's Manual say and where are the applicable fuses and relays located?

How to install headlights on 2002 toyota camry

I assume you mean just the bulbs:
  1. 1 Shut off the Camry's engine and set the parking brake for added safety. Also, make sure its headlights are switched off.
  2. 2 Open the hood using the primary and auxiliary hood release latches.
  3. 3 Locate the back of the headlight assembly and determine whether the low- or high-beam bulb needs to be replaced.
  4. 4 Turn the headlight bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly.
  5. 5 Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. Carefully dispose of the bulb to prevent it from shattering or cracking.
  6. 6 Attach the electrical connector to the new bulb and insert it into the headlight assembly. Twist it clockwise to secure its position.
  7. 7 Test the new headlight to make sure it works before closing the hood.
Thank you,
Lee

Remove driver side headlight assy to replace side marker light

There are two screws holding the headlight in. The screws are just above the headlight. After removing the screws you'll need to carefully pull straight out on the headlight assembly. There's a ball/socket type joint just behind the headlight. This joint needs separated for the assembly to come all the way ouit. Reaching and replacing the side light bulb requires a bit of arm twisting.
Reverse the order to re-install the headlight.
