The sensor should be very close to the pedal lever location inside or under the hood.

Engine speed increasing w/o acceleration suggests a problem w/ torque converter slipping or drive clutches slipping. I assume this is an automatic. Make sure you have adequate fluid in the transmission. I would also check for any OBD2 transmission codes that might be presented.

Code P0420 for catalyst system efficiency below threshold will not affect engine performance. It only means the catalytic converter is not performing as designed.

Your problem could have many sources, but I would start by having your fuel pressure checked, especially under load. It sounds very much like your fuel pump is failing. Quite typically fuel pumps will run fine, then not fine, then fine again. Very often they act up while the engine is under load, such as climbing a significant hill, or accelerating suddenly.

Check your engine mounts to make sure they haven't failed. The torque of the engine can, during acceleration, can cause the motor to twist slightly if the motor mount(s) are bad, causing the gas pedal linkage to move, increasing acceleration.

Your timming belt has jumped a tooth.Remove the covers and check that all teeth are ok.Then tighten or change the timming belt.I would fit a new timming belt.Has it is costly when they fail.Good luck.pippall.

Even under acceleration you should have cold air from vents.Does the air change from the vents to defroster or elsewhere when accelerating? Make sure you have a full charge of refrigerent..Also make sure the engine isnt running hot...
